I traded for a 1908 in 7x57 at epps yesterday & took it to the range with a whopping 40rnds of ammo. Half the ammo was s&b the other mixed stuff from the bottom of the barrel at epps. I have to admit I was surprised at how well it shot, 2.5 at 100 & 1.25 at 50yrds. No cheek trauma either. Anybody else love this 7x57 round? Rifle is beautiful too!

desporterizer, I'm willing to bet that rifle will shoot well under an inch with decent bullets and handloads. I have a couple of 1908s that have identical chambers. They both shoot under an inch with these loads, the first comes from Lyman #46 manual and gives 2900fps at 43,000psi.

W760 - 49.0grns
CCI BR 2 primers
OAL - 3.010 in with a nut gauge
either 139grn Hornady #2825 BTSP or 140grn Sierra #1905 bullets

50grn - H414SL10
CCI 250 magnum primers

There is absolutely no change in point of impact with idendical sight settings between the two loads. I use this same load in a Peruvian M95 and a Spanish 93 as well as a 1935 brazilian and a Winchester Model 70 with pretty much identical results.

I don't usually give out loads without seeing the rifle it's intended for, but with the moderate pressures in this one and it's phenomenal consistancy, I don't have much problem. All of these rifles, other than the sporter, have 29 inch bbles, with excellent bores, so expect slightly lower velocities from shorter bbls or worn bbls. bearhunter

Yup .... me too ... :D

Those 1908 and 1935 Brazilians, as well as the 7.65 x 53mm Argentines.

They say that the 1908 Mauser actions are some of the finest ever made... :)

They are beautiful rifles to handle and shoot.....

BTW, that's some nice shooting as well... :dancingbanana:
