Here is one of my Mausers. Numbers are all matching including proofs. I left the wood as is. The dents can all be steamed out. It is still in cosmoline. I bought it in the early 80s.

So what is the going value, today?

Henry;)

If it's still in the cosmoline it should have an excellent bore. I know they're more common than a 1935 Mauser but aside from the storage/handling nicks in the stock it still looks like new. How many PMs have you received offering to buy it so far?:D

No bayonnet! It is a Brazilian contract rifle that I have not fired. Everything matches. The bore is full of grease but looks good. I have received emails for nearly that amount. I am not sure if I want to part with it.

I have others that I would part with. I will post pictures.

Awesome rifle! I have one, it's one of the most accurate, pleasant to shoot military rifles I've ever owned. You'd never get it from me at any price.

Know what you mean. I picked one up with the intention of using it as a basis for a 7mm 'Custom' job. There's a few of the usual dings in the stock but the metal work is excellent!! It still has the original sling attachments and most of the leather sling. In the meantime I picked up a 7x61 S&H but after shooting the '08, if I do go for a custom set-up, I'll probably go with the original barrel and go with it as is, 7x57mm.

One really great thing about those Brazilian mausers, the head space and chambers are identical. I've picked up a few in the past and if they're in VG or better condition, the same load with the same OAL and they will shoot into less than an inch at 100yds. An interesting aside, the Brazilians loaded a 140grn bullet at 2900fps.

There were a lot of beautiful sporters made on those actions as well as the barreled actions. For a very short while in the early seventies pristine barreled actions were available for $75. That was a pretty hefty price in those days, considering you could buy a complete rifle kit from Sherwood, including stock, 98 barreled action, drilled and tapped with the charger guides ground off, adjustable trigger, aluminum trigger guard, sand paper etc for about the same price. Admittedly some of the actions left a bit to be desired.

Those early Brazilians were gorgeous. They shoot as good as they look and all of the parts are perfect. The triggers are beautifully crisp and let off right at 4 1/2 pounds.

hnchaj, bayonets are available in the $100 range in excellent condition, give or take a few dollars. The finish on that receiver looks to be slightly stained as well and the safe kisses would require refinishing the stock, therefore lowering the value. I think the $350-$400 price tag is in the right ball park.
