190g .308 bullets from a M14?

they were also arguing the fact that 175 grain smk has a slight HOLLOW POINT , and i don;t know whether that was cleard up-

Yes, it has. The sierra matchking, while having a hollow point, was not designed to expand on impact, thus satisfying the hague accords in the opinion of the US military.

The issue came up again lately when a JAG lawyer freaked out about them and overstepped her authority without knowing the previous ruling, and getting some snipers into trouble. It has been cleared up again. I understand that this case is used as an example now in military law school. A primary source of the confusion is that the manufacturer did not cease to print "not for combat use" or "not for use in time of war" on the cartons since the issue was first debated.

My understanding comes from reading the discussion on other forums.

^ Very interesting. My intention is to test the ammo I have out to 1000m, however I stupidly sold my M40 years ago and currently have no rifle capable of performing such a test with. I plan to build another within the next year or two.

the usa national match team USED TO regulary shoot m21/m25s out to 1000 yards - it's all there on the net, and they found that the 175's were TOO HARD ON THE ACTION- so it IS possible provided you have an armourer and replacement parts however it is BEYOND the ability of us poor civilans-
years ago i ran into a couple of guys that liked to "call long distance" that told me that the NORMAL strike was about 2 feet high at 500 and about 5 feet to the left using the 70series m118 to get about 700- for 1000 it was about a COUPLE OF YARDS HIGH and a yard to the right- that's PURE GUESSWORK, AND probably used an OBSERVER to figure fall of shot, rather than the scope- remember the observer probably had an m49 spotting scope

Excellent info. Yes after 700m the .308 certainly does drop like a stone. I have shot the 70's M118 into a fist size group at 320m and hand size at just over 400m using irons (M14). Should be fun when I get the bolt gun with 10X on the go.

awww, c'mon play fair- use a spotting scope , observer, and the m14- bolt guns are NO FUN

Haha, I had to sell my custom M14 along with most of my guns last year due to a financial screwing:mad:. I'm down to an Israeli 98k and my SAN. The poodle shooter ain't gettin to a thou and the 98's sights are hard enough to see at 400 soo....its M40 time when I get the cash:D

Right on, go for it!

Be sure to take a good look at savage though..... I dropped a 10FLP into a mcmillan A5, bedded it, and now it will shoot ten 1/2MOA groups in a row. Smallest group so far was 0.28, and i still haven't fine-tuned my load development yet. Pretty hard to beat for the money.

That's why the sadlak piston looks interesting, with it I could use my 175gr+ reloads in both that rifle and the M14. So does anyone know if it fits the norinco gas system, or just usgi???

probably usgi only- that's made in the states and not much of a norinco market down there- i STILL suspect BUSH or clinton made a back room deal with the american arms company to norinco /poly out of the states- but the way around that would be to REPLACE THE gas cylinder with a usgi one- it shouldn't all that difficult- just a matter knocking off the f/h and undoing the front collar, then sliding the chinese one off and the usgi one on then putting everything back

Yeah, I was hoping not to have to do that....... my gas cylinder is unitized and set up really nicely. Oh well, these M14's never stop crying for more TLC!
