I'm new to restricted ownership, and I just picked up a Colt 22 1911. It only came with one mag, so obviously I'd like a few more. Are the 1911 .22lr mags universal, or would I have to buy colt specific mags?

Also, anyone know where I might be able to find said mags?

Thanks!

See if anyone in your club or at some club event has a GSG 1911. If the mag fits. locks in place and holds the rounds at the proper place that would be a cheap and ready source. I suggest this because I've been told that the GSG frame is 100% 1911 compatible even if it is alloy and "just a .22". If Colt uses a stock 1911 lower then the GSG mag should fit and lock in place. The question is then if the lips present the cartridges at the proper height and angle for the Colt slide to ride over and strip for chambering. Only a test will show for sure.

You may run across some Sig mags for THEIR 1911 .22. But those are also made by GSG.

I know some who uses GSG mags in his Kimber 1911 with 22LR conversion slide. GSG mags are abundant.

I have a GSG and am in Calgary. PM inbound.

I put up a thread on here awhile ago that I had conducted a test & found that I was able to successfully use GSG 1911 .22lr mags with my Colt .22 conversion unit. Awesome since real deal Colt conversion [or Ace] .22 lr mags are scarce & expensive when found. The GSG mags worked perfectly! Not sure with the dedicated Colt 1911 .22 lr pistol, though, but it would be good to source a GSG .22 mag & see if it works with it.

Here's a link to my thread on the above info... there's pics in it for reference too....
