1911 45 what would you buy

It depends. I have never owned one, but I'd suggest the s&w 1911. I have an sti range master. Awesome pistol. But out of the box I was getting ftf and sometimes fte. So I swapped out the crap recoilmaster for a traditional spring and guide rod and dropped in an aftec extractor. Then and now, problems are gone.

The s&w external extractor is nothing like JMB original design. It's much more modern of a design and imo eliminates the need for aftec extractors; saves you $100. Traditional guide rod and spring saves you $20.

But that said, I love my STI. So if you don't mind tuning your gun, go sti. If you want to point and shoot, s&w.

Good luck!

The Rugers are just so clean looking...I have the 5" but the CMD has me drooling.

Get a Norinco 1911A3 from Canada Ammo. It is a decent enough gun, mine shoots great. Commander length. Fibre optic site.
Then with the savings, buy 2 CASES OF AMMO and shoot the crap out of something.
(p.s. I just said this to be the antagonist and because nobody said it yet. Those Springfields always look nice if you wish to get a namebrand gun. )

I have Norinco up to loaded springfields. Love them all, as long as their tuned. Now next will be a dan Wesson or the likes to see if they are that much better. Only ones I won't have are kimbers, sorry your paying for the name. Budget and fit is what drives the decision on these guns.

OK, I love my Dlask prepared Norinco - the slide and frame is all that is left from Norinco and Ihave a couple others I shoot from time to time but if you are looking for a 45acp pistol and have medium to large hands go shoot a CZ 97 B or their Decocker 97B. The 97B is one swee but often over looked pistol. Stock in the hands of someone who can shoot the gun will shoot with the best of the 1911's for a quarter of the price. They simply are amazing pistols. Get a trigger job done on them, and new sights and they are even sweeter.

That said if you can finds a Dan Wesson in or around your price range go for it. New or gently used. There are a lot of average 1911's out there and some pretty 1911's out there and a whole lot of pretty average 1911's as well. Quality costs but value can be had and the Dan Wessons fall into that category so do Dlask 1911's. Dlask is as good as they get IMHO.

Take Care
