1911 45acp drop in threaded barrel?

Hello,

I am looking for a drop in threaded barrel for my nighthawk GRP 1911 or my Colt 80 1991A1, 5.5" or 6"
Anyone have any experience or recommendations? Preference to match grade but doesn't have to be.


Option 2 would be to buy another 1911 with a factory threaded barrel. Anyone have any recommendations? Sig has an option. Any others?

And for the bubblewrapped individual bound to ask why I want it....just because I do.

"Drop-in" and 1911 aren't often seen in the same sentence - your Nighthawk is a custom fitted pistol, so the odds of anything but the factory Nighthawk barrel that it came with dropping in are about zero. That's why you paid so much for it - hand fitting. As for the factory Colt, it'll be a whole lot sloppier in the link, hood, legs and lugs, but there's still no guarantee it'll drop in. I do know that Storm Lake sells barrels that are advertised as drop-in (or semi-drop-in) and that they have match chambers, but don't be surprised if the new barrel needs fitting. Incidentally, fitting a 1911 barrel isn't a do-it -yourself job unless you're very familiar with both the process and the tools involved - being a machinist or tool and die maker helps.

yes, when I say drop in I am referring to barrels advertised complete as "drop in" on retail web sites as opposed to stock blank. I am prepared to "final fit" as required. Full machine shop is good to go.

eta: ok, I checked out the storm lake site. That looks pretty good. Top end for price but about right if it's good quality match. Thanks for the lead
