I've seen guys at the range with a cheap 1911 9mm coverted to 7.62x25mm and I was wondering where people found this kit? Any idea what they cost or if any gun smithing is required? Ive got a trojan in 9mm and if the kits cheap enough it might be fun to play with.

You won't like the answer in any case.
Those 1911 kits are not available to Canadians anymore. Ellwood Epps did have some years ago, but J&G Sales who makes them will not export them anymore to Canada.
Those that own them that are shooting surplus with those kits doesn't work well as firing pin strikes are light and unreliable iginition takes place with harder military primers. IMO, find a good Tok, do a trigger job and get better grips. Cheaper and it shoots milsurp just fine.
When I saw the individual at the range I did talk to him, but I forgot to ask the most important question. Further more I own a tt33 and even load my own 7.62x25mm ammo, but you cant compare a 70 year old beat up Russian pistol to a custom made 1911
Problem with the 7.62x25 conversion, is trying to get more than 4 rounds in the magazine, I have tryed the CZECH surplus and I cannot fitt more than 2 rounds due to ammo length in the 38 super magazine I have?
Wish someone made a factory 1911 or a striker fire type pistol ala Glock, I would even buy a plastic gun
I understand wanting a custom gun, I have a few myself!
I have the best result with my Polish tt33 unissued, triggers are great on all 3 that I bought. If you want a more robust gun in this calibre I would get a CZ52, great gun and fills the hand of you big Uns!
My friend wants to build a carbine rifle in this calibre, looking at the possibilities of a nice bolt gun!

floriosean1, I have a J&G sales 1911 conversion kit for shooting 7.62 X 25 Tokarev. The kit contains a barrel and a bushing. rest is up to you. you need 38 super magazines and a 9mm or 38 super 1911 (needs a feed ramp) The kit works to a limit. If you are reloading the ammo, you will get rid of the two main bugbears of this conversion.
1st is 7.62 X 25 OAL is longer than 38 super. normally you can load only 5 rounds before the angle of the cartridge in the magazine causes a jam. If you reduce OAL while reloading, you can get more rounds in the magazine.
2nd is the issue of hard primers. Because of surplus ammo, you require a higher rate hammer spring.
Another issue I have found is if you need to eject a live round, you have to drop the magazine to allow the live round to slide down the magwell as the ejection port is too short to allow a live round through.

I think Ganderite played with a conversion. If I recall, the shells were just a tad too long, and he ran them thru a seating die. Then he was having problems with the military primers and went to re loading. From what I have heard of those conversions, you spent more time tinkering and not a lot of time shooting. PM him or do a search, but go back at least a year. I thought about it, but it seemed like a lot of work with not much return
I have ordered some ammo (not surplus) from Tradeex, dont know if it is the same as you mention. Have not recieved it yet. Even so, it will not solve the OAL issue where cannot fit more than 5 in a mag without casuing a jam.
There is another thread about this topic, and both Ganderite and I have commented there. The conversion works just fine if you load 5 in a mag, if I start reloading or reseatng the bullets that issue will go away. the 1911 is much more controllable than a TT-33 when shooting these hot loads. It is surprisingly accurate as well.
