1911 9mm question

So I'm shopping for my first pistol. And I love the 1911 platform but I want a 9mm so it's easy to afford ammo and not as much recoil. So I'm shopping around on various sites looking at 1911 and I've noticed something. The 9mm counterpart to 45acp 1911's always seems to be more expensive. Look at the same pistol in both calibers the 9mm is much more. Is there a reason for this I don't see? It seems to me that they should be the same price. It's just a different sized barrel but other wise all parts should be about the same. Rant/question over.
 
I just ordered the Springfield R/O 9 mm. I believe the 9 mm 1911 needs a little tweaking to make them reliable in 9mm. Maybe that's where the exta cost comes in. Be careful on which brand name you get as some may have feeding issues. Gary , at Wanstalls assured me that the Springfield R/O is the way to go.
 
I'm expecting purchasers are asking for more 9MM's for the cost savings and the market responds..

Sam makes very affordable and nicely finished 1911's for the price.
 
just bought a para ordinance expert 1911 in 9mm. couldn't see spending another 500 bucks for a sig or sti. seems to be a quality piece, bought mostly for the wife, she finds my 45 auto a bit heavy and a bit jumpy.
 
Stay away from para(just my feelings). STI is a quality gun as well is springfield. If you are looking for reliability I know these two will preform. I do not have any input on other models or makers.

There should be a rule that if you buy a 1911, it must be in .45 acp.
 
I got a Sprinfield Armory/STI Hybrid and I got a SAM 9mm 1911 and hasn't gave me any issues other then my screw up disassembly and bending the safety. Mainly was a gift. I prolly would get a STI if I had a choice.
 
I had a 45 ACP since I was 16... I moved down to 9mm because the cost. I like 1911 because they fit my hand well.

I enjoyed my 22LR 1911, the C02 BB that had recoil was fun indoors. Prolly why my hands like 1911 because pretty much only pistol I own. Oh I got a Ruger 2245. Suppose to feel like a 1911.

I can shoot 9mm cheaper I mean the last box of 45acp cost me over 34$. I can get 100rds of 9mm for that.
 
9mm was hit and miss for reliability years ago. most manufactures have got the bugs out now. IMO go with 38Super better round although doing your own reloading would be a plus.

What's better about the 38 super over the 9mm?Although the super is ahead balllistically when it comes to paper punching here in Canada that doesn't make any difference.Where the 9mm is better is that it's way cheaper to shoot and reload(and super is pretty much a reloading only option),brass is plentiful and cheap( free)while super brass is very expensive when you can find it.To reach the supers full potential you need twice the amount of a slow burning powder than in the 9 so that adds cost as well

I own 1911s in 22,9mm,38 super and 45 and for a new shooter I think it makes perfect sense to start off with a 9 mm,lots cheaper to shoot,less recoil ,so easier to learn to shoot well.

Personally I have a sti Spartan which I really enjoy shooting and although sti doesn't produce them anymore they can still be found new at pretty good prices

Reloading any calibre is a plus, the press pays for itself in a year.

Blazer 9mm ammo is super cheap if you hit cabelas at the right time
 
If you find an STI Spartan in 9mm: grab it.
They are now discontinued and are (IMHO) the best valued 1911 9mm. Yes: the Trojan is nicer, but the price value of the Spartan makes up for it.

Note: My perspective on 1911s is from a "I want to shoot it a lot" state of mind. The Spartan is not pretty.
