I am curious about the steel quality, fit finish, function, of the turkish 1911s, girsan and canuck. My boss has norincos and usually puts money into them. I wonder if that's the way to go or Should I buy a sam? I am buying a 1911 for a son, and figure if he likes that platform, he can buy a pricey one later on. But I still want to get him something that will function well. Thanks

Hi; If you can source out a fairly good and fair priced used one it may be a keeper for ever. Saves the messing around and less cash in the end, sometimes.

I see a very good condition, r1 750$, ya maybe spend alittle more, thanks

Everything I've seen of the Turkish handguns has been impressive. Fit and finish appear fantastic, especially on the Girsan 92, 1911 and HP clones. As to the metallurgy, I can't imagine they're any worse that when those guns were first made.

If I wasn't such a stickler about brands and their history, I would have no problems throwing money at them.

If you're thinking about a 1911, the above sentiment is pretty decent. An R1 will take you a ways, as well a Girsan. Can't say I'm a fan of the SAM guns based on reliability issues that I've read about, but then again, Les Baers don't much care to run on some cheap ammo, so I guess it's all relative. Lol

I have a SAM 1911A1

fit and finish is way better than on the Norinco I had.
iirc a bit over $600 after taxes and delivery from Wolverine. Haven't had any issue with it at all

I have a Girsan MC 1911 S. I've had it for a couple years, and have put alot of rounds thru it. It has functioned flawlessly. I have used various types of ammunition. The fit and finish is excellent. I'm a very picky and technical person. I bought it to try the 1911 platform, without making an initial large investment. There is no need to upgrade. It's a perfect gun. My friend, who is a 1911 freek, and owns several high ends 1911's, is very impressed with this gun as well.

Nork are good guns, and so are SAM. Norks are currently using the toughest steel in the industry. I have one I spent a little over $300.00 on, it is accurate, and it just works and works.
