Just wondering if anyone has any experience shooting 45 SWC's through a 1911. Been thinking of trying it but as my minimum reload batch for purchasing bullets is 500 rounds would like to know if it is an OK idea or not and if there are any things to watch out for. My Ruger 1911 has been very good with conventional 230 gr RN.

I have hand loaded 200gn LFN (looks like a SWC to me) and shot them in my Norc commander no problem. That and 230gn LRN and Plated RN.

May depend upon your feed ramp configuration though.

All I use is 200 grn SWC's DRG hard cast. I've ran them in my Kimber Eclipse target, Sig xo, and Ruger. And my buddy has used a couple hundred in his 5" norc. I crimp on the upper band and not in the groove. Never had a hiccup after 1000's of them.

Semi Wadcutters feed well in 1911s that have been throated and polished.

My Ruger SR1911 came from the factory throated and polished so it feeds SWC well, like butter.

So I am pretty sure your SR1911 will like SWCs.

I had Colts and Norkies that were not T and P'd and they did not feed SWC at all.

Try them..........If you have any trouble feeding.......load them a tad longer ....still within oal. that usually fixes feed proplems with 200 gr LSWC.

I'd load a couple of small batches - it doesn't take many - with slightly different OAL's, the OAL is the factor most likely to prevent feeding, as soon as you've found a good one, lock the die in and leave it.

I've shot lots of berry's plated swc's in my two colts and I found the mags to be the only issue. Factory colt mags were hit or miss,pro-mag 10 rounders had a zero percent success rate and chip mc cormick mags 8 or 10 rounds ran them flawlessly.

If it wasn't for FM Shooting Sports and their 200 LSWC projectiles I would not be able to afford shooting 45acp as much as I do.

I run them over 4.6g of 700x and have good results. The key is the COAL, I believe it must be around 1.25". All my 1911's run on this load.

My SR1911 absolutely loves SWC and actually has best groups with cheap Wolf SWC.

They also shoot perfectly out of a Norinco 1911 as well.
