I have a vintage (1943) 1911 Government Model made by Remington, and it's bit my hand one too many times.

I am trying to find a drop-in beaver tail type grip safety to fit my 1911, in blue from a Canadian supplier. The American dealers I found do not want to ship to Canada.

Marstar seems to be the only place that sold them and they are out of stock.

Any ideas as to who has one to buy would be really appreciated :)

Thanks.

Brownell's, I know you said in Canada buy it's just easier to order from them.

As for being drop in, 1911 parts aren't meant to drop in, chances are that any grip safety will need minor filing to get it to fit/function properly.

thanks for the reply... Yes, I understand that some fitting may be required, should not be an issue for me.

I will call Brownell's. However according to their website:

"Canadian customers are required to provide an Import Authorization which states that you can import firearm components. Our Department of State will only accept a certified English translation of this import permit. DO NOT send your original copy because you will need it to receive the goods when they come to you."

If I have to go through Foreign Affairs and International Trade in Ottawa to get an import authorization permit for a $35 part it's not really worth it.

Numrich has Remington Grip safety in stock.

They ship to Canada.

You do not have to get an Import Authorization on most parts. If a part is restricted you will see a box saying "RESTRICTED" under the item in your cart, click on the restriction and it will say exactly why the part is restricted.

If your order is between $100 and $500 they will ask you to fill out an end user agreement, takes 5 minutes and you email it back to them, it's very easy.

If you call them ask for Sandy in international shipping. She will cut through all the bull crap and tell you straight. I had a similar problem when trying to order and was told by three other employees that the item I was ordering was prohibited from shipping to Canada which it was not.

This^^^^^^^^^^^you only need to do import/ export papers on stuff like a barrel. A beavertail grip safety is definetly not a problem, just order it and Brownell's will ship it.

I recently bought a Wilson Combat drop-in beavertail from Brownell's and they didn't ask for any import/export paperwork from me.

Also keep in mind that the hammer will have to be changed out or modified or it will interfere with the new grip safety.

Awesome info guys, thanks!

I will do some shopping on Monday and see what I can find.

I certainly don't want to do anything irreversible to my vintage 1911, I just bullesye shoot with it, so it will never be an IPSC gun. It's actually stamped on the side "Remington Rand" which was apparently type writer company converted to military production during the war (like the IBM M1Carbines), so it's an interesting piece, but it's no Colt. However I love shooting it and it's amazingly accurate and reliable.
