1911 before , during , and after

This is a project that I started in Dec last year , not quite done , another week rusting some small parts and getting the grips fitted a bit better. Checkering is 30 lpi , all internal parts are by Wilson , colour case done by Oskar Kob of N.S. I decided to brown the slide as opposed to rust blue . I'll post another pic when it's complete

Not sure I like the case hardening idea, but it sure looks different.

made a presentable gun out of a rusty paperweight.

The colour case hardening came out SUPERB ! ! ! ! And I really like the contrast between the slide and frame. The browning gives the gun a whole other "old world" character. Couple that with the art deco rear sight and other details and the whole thing looks like a gun suitable for a sort of steam era Victorian alternate universe story where we never developed electricity and electronics.

The ONLY thing I would want to change for myself is the oversize thumb safety. I find those just get in the way of my strong hand thumb. I far prefer the smaller rounded military issue style so the soft inner part of my thumb can mold around the safety comfortably. But that's a minor and personal nit to pick.

I'm neither here nor there on the look of the slide but the colour case hardening looks great. Any idea how well it will wear?
