Well I've done it now. Bought a naked commander frame.
After having read a bunch...
1) Because it is just the frame I can build a 70 series and avoid the extra parts?
2) A commander uses the same internals as a government? (except slide and barrel stuff of course)
3) non-ramped so HAS to be 45? OOOOOOOOOOOOH could I do 460 Rowland? Or 10mm I don't have one of those yet? Screw it .45 ACP I don't need ANOTHER calibre to try and get up here.
4) Novak or Bo-Mar sight cut? I know SQUAT about the difference.
I know I will think of more as I go along so any and all ideas are great.
Anything you can think of that I may run into along the way that I am going to say "MAN I wish I had THIS tool"?

1- yes
2-assuming the same cartridge, yes (some cartridges use different ejectors)
3- no, non ramped can be done in just about anything that will fit.
4- adjustable; Bomar style, fixed, Novak.

They're like Lego, once you start playing with them. - dan

It is that bare it only has the plunger tube on it so I am literally starting from scratch. Not even grip bushings.

challenge is its a pain in the ass when you screw up the barrel. other parts are no big deal. if we could get barrels here for $50 like they do in the US u can play around but in Canada its to costly. it really depends on your skill level. i am just saying for a first time builder.

How much detail fitting varies considerably. GI loose, not so much. Match grade barrel, slide, bushing, link, potentially a lot more.
Used a Norinco barrel, Remington Rand slide, standard link on a Norinco 9mm frame, with .45 ejector. Worked fine.

I have heard that if you order from Brownell's there is a $250 export fee if you order a barrel.
Is there a dealer in Canada (CGN sponsor would be awesome) that sells 1911 parts OTHER than Western Gun Parts? They don't carry them and won't even order one in.

Only you know which (receiver) version you bought. Tell us the name, or post a pic (showing the top).

(Does a) commander uses the same internals as a government?

Mostly. The recoil spring guide and the recoil spring plug are shorter, and the recoil spring is heavier.

#1 are the Kuhnhausen manuals*. (The manuals will explain the why and what for everything else that you'll need.)

#2 is a Brownells catalog. (Not everything is on the website.)

Is there a dealer in Canada that sells 1911 parts?

Freedom Ventures.
