I was checking my email and I see that my Taurus PT1911 SHOULD be here tomorrow. I was thinking about tearing it apart and remembered about the bushing wrench. It is my first 1911, so I do not have a bushing wrnech. Anyone with a 1911, do the guns come with one, and do you need it to disassemble? If you need one and one is not in the package, I am going to look some dumb unless Jason Spencer happens to have one .

Bushing wrench are a commodity but not a necessity.
I have a racegun mounted on a spartan. Raceguns for one are at the utmost complexity when it comes to disassembly, on top of that, the spartan bushing is one tough son of a gun. But here's How I do it anyway, any kind of stick will do. Shown here with a spare non-compensated barrel and a hex key. With a compensated barrel, a 2 piece rod is the only way to go and that is what is removed first, along with the spring. Without the spring's tension, bushing is then removed with bare hands

Step 1: push the plug down with the stick

Step 2: Rotate stick to have bushing rotate, watch out of exiting plug and spring

Step 3: Observe correct bushing position for extraction

Step 4: Pull on barrel, bushing will follow

You don't really need one. I've used pens, the end of my cleaning rod, etc. Although I just recently ordered one I found on eBay for $9.

I think your gun should come with a wench, this wench is a great tool. I don't have one and look at my bloody finger tip at hurt everytime take the gun down, My king barrel bushing is very tight fit.

And yes, not using a wrench in the past I have had to walk across the room to pickup my spring. Luckily no eye injuries. :)

Some guns (STIs) are so tight you really need one. I think you will be fine without it with your Taurus. I have a Taurus as well and I can do just fine without a bushing wrench.
