1911 chamber support?

Recently got my first 1911 and noticed that the chamber isn't exactly 100% supported.

Was just wondering how come no one talks about unsupported 1911 barrels the way people talk about Glocks' Is it because there aren't any (or VERY few) cases of KB with 1911?

Pic bellow; unramped (Colt style) 1911 barrel next to P220 barrel.

I was actually thinking the same thing, but there are 9mm, .40 and 10mm 1911's I'm sure some (most?) are ramped/supported, but I know not all (DW 10mm is unramped for example)....Also I've heard of KB's with .45 Glocks...(perhaps chamber support isn't the reason for Glocks KB's..but I don't want to open that can of worms) ;)

I love the 1911 and the Glock.kboom can happen with any brand and model.
The worst kboom I witness was with a Wilson 1911.The one I personally experienced was a brand new XD 40.The Xd have fully supported chambers.
This kboom can be varified by The staff @ Woverine.I drove down to pick up
my new Xd and while I was waiting for some of the paper work to come through I walked up to the range with a few boxes of factory PMC 165gr.Second or third mag KBoom.I feel my hand a little numb but no injuries.Of course the great folks @ Wolverine gave me a new one on the spot did the paperwork and I was able to drive home with the new gun that day.Yes I did
put the rest of the 150rds through the new gun just to be sure.i over 3years Not one stoppage of any sort withthe new gun.

I have witnessed 2 kabooms with 1911 style guns , both were the result of overloads. The damage to the gun was the grips were cracked and broken and the mag was blown out of the gun. New grips and another mag and it was back shooting. A kaboom in a plastic gun usually ruins the frame, maybe that is why it is reported more.

Man...you're a braver/tougher/more trusting guy than I am....
With that initial experience, I would have gotten my money back and bought something...ANYTHING else...rather than confirm by my own 'destructive testing' that S&W had a bad batch of firearms!
Talk about 'getting back on the horse that threw ya'!!!!!!

Ha Ha,You are not the first guy that said that.I guess its part of my personality.I never quit.I have had many say its my strongest quality,
and other say I'm just too thick to know when to call it over.
But like anything you cant base all your pinions on just one experience,
good or bad.

Sometimes you don't need support

Like the guy above said, 45acp is a relatively low pressure cartridge, but it is very big. The extra area relieved facilitates ease of loading.
With that lower pressure, you don't need fully supported barrels.
This is NOT the case with higher pressure rounds like 9mm/357Sig/38super.
Barrels in these calibers will be fully supported, including Glock barrels.
40 caliber is a kinda trade-off. Much higher pressure than 45acp. Some manufacturers have fully supported barrels. The G22 is mostly supported and though not fully supported, it is engineered to handle standard pressures easily. Again, when you overload, or very hot load, pressure limits can be reached easily...

1911 style???

Exactly what barrel and what gun is it from???
In other words>>> WHO MADE THE BARREL ?????????????

I have been shooting 45 1911's for 28 yrs.
Neverr a barrel issue with any Colt 1911 factory loads.
I have owned dozens, maybe more. I never have had to worry about ramps/ Etc.
It is after the so-called >>smithed improvements<< to the Colt's that some issues started .
although no barrel issues.
And handloaded ammo has been most of the pressure issues.
