1911 colt brand, how good are they?

I'VE GOT A SERIES 70 in nickel with the fingers and yet to see ANY PROBLEM - then you ask about the SERIES 80 WITH THAT STUPID FIRING PIN SAFETY-

Wehn it comes to Colt, there is the marketing aspect and the value of the name. As far as the guns go, they are good, solid and work well. Yes, sometimes people have issues with them. In my personal experience though, they have all been working, accurate and effective.

Bought a new 1911 last year. Handled Colts (XSE and Gold Cup) and found that the Dan Wesson bobtail was better - comparable price, much nicer and more precise finish, much crisper trigger break and frame to slide fit and bushing to barrel fit. The Gold Cup (for almost $1,500) was riding too much on its Colt name and not enough on its own merits - loose fit and substandard trigger break. IMHO, today's Colts are not what they used to be - my old WWII USGI was put together nicer (lots of hand finishing in those).

My advice is to physically check them all out and make the call that's right for you!

i just went through all the 1911 research and I looked at Colt closely. I picked the DW CBOB, it's fantastic !!

wow, that is nice. it comes with a zombie survival guide? :)
shaun of the dead!

Supposedly Colt has the lowest return rates in the 1911 industry.

DWs are nice pieces, but I can't imagine being a 1911 fan and not having a Colt.

I have a great deal of confidence them. Sometimes a brand DOES mean something.

I have 2 Colts, a new (2008) SS commander and a SS Delta Elite 10 mm. When I compare it to my STI, Taurus or Para. I actually find the commander to my preferred 1911. No rattle, crisp trigger and great accuracy. Personally, I find it to be a bit of a crap shot. By what you want and enjoy. Next up for me a kimber or springfield in 40 S&W.
