Hey guys,

here's a question for all you 1911 aficionados out there:

It's time for my Significant Other's first pistol (aside from the Walther P22 she started on).

She has TINY hands, and I just can't find anything that will fit her. I was hoping for a Walther P99 or a SIG P229, but no dice...can't reach the controls.

I am exploring the possibility of getting a SIG P225 from the States with a 106mm barrel, but I can't rely on that...might not work.

Unfortunately, the compacts/sub-compacts that WOULD fit her hand are a no-go in the Great White North.

So: who currently makes a 1911 that fits the following criteria?

- Commander length (4" barrel)

- 9mm

- Rail (and not the crappy add-on aftermarket ones)

- Single stack

- Stainless or two-tone finish

- Takes all aftermarket 1911 parts (extended slide release, extended mag release, slimline grips...anything I can do to make the pistol smaller in her hand, so she can reach the controls)

The finish is no biggie, I heard good things about Arma-Coat...but the rest are requirements.

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys!

going to be hard to find a 4" barrel in canada ;)

you may be SOL on the stainless railed commander withing hitting the 3k wilson/nighthawk limit, however STI makes the duty one 4.0 which has a rail and an officers sized frame or the tactical SS 4.0 with a reg sized frame. if its not on the site freedom ventures can get it for you im sure

Kimber makes one similiar to what you want. It's called the Kimber PRO TLE/RL II model, full stainless, railed, commander length...only thing us that it's in the $1700 range, 45ACP (I don't know if there is a 9mm version offered), and pretty hard to find, not to mention it will be heavy

If the biggest concern for your lady is fit, try the STI ranger II - a very nice choice even though it doesn't have a rail, it's slim and I have read many good reviews on them

I've thought about a P239, since I also have a SIG and know they're good...but the cost is approaching prohibitive, $1400 from Questar...I've found STI Spartans for fairly cheap, Commander-length and 9mm...somewhere on this list of requirements we'll have to compromise, but maybe we'll get lucky?

What do you know about the quality of Shooter's Arms 1911s? Found a new local 1911 Commander, stainless, 9mm. I'd throw on a set of extended controls and slimline grips for her and we're good to go, for way less $$$...

A quality but "not cheap" option might be to pick and choose the parts from the Caspian Arms catalogue, I'm 99% certain you could meet all your criteria with their catalogue alone.

Does it have to be centerfire?

Honestly, if her hands really are that small, then she really should try holding a Browning 1911-22. I don't know how experienced she is at shooting, but if she is shooting just for fun, she'll have more fun shooting that since it will build her confidence and she'll be better able to control it than any commander size 1911. I've handled one of the Browning and it's nicely made.

My wife got turned off from trying to shoot my center fire guns because she has difficulty controlling them. She loves shooting 22 Cal though, so that's fine with me.
