I'm having trouble taking apart 1911 I have. It has a coned barrel, no bushing and FLGR. Anyone have any advice on take down for this type? I never owned a bushingless 1911 before.

There's usually a small hole in the guide rod where you need to place an allen key or similar device to keep the recoil spring compressed. From there you can remove the slide with the spring/rod still inside the slide. I suggest a modified(cut down) allen key in the shape of a small L where the base is very short. Insert the "key" then cut it to length a little at a time. The "key" must fit inside the dust cover, allowing the slide to move over top.

Lock the slide to the rear

Insert the "key"

Release slide so you can align the take down slot with the slide lock.

disassemble as normal.

DO NOT remove the "key" after disassembly.

I can get the slide off no problem. It's barrel. The plug on it needs to go out from the back, it won't come out from the front of the slide.

When I take the slide off I cannot slide the FLGR towards the back because the back of it gets caught on the barrel lug.

I'm pretty much just trying to take the barrel off to give it a good cleaning.

To get the slide off I've just been holding it back by hand to the disassembly notch, then popping out the slide stop.

Can you remove the recoil spring and rod once you get the slide off? If you can't then you'll have to use the method outlined above. What make is it?

Sorry I kinda get what you mean now with the bent paper clip. It's a reverse plug. I gotta dig around and find a clip. Once I get the reverse plug moved back enough it will probly give me the amount of play I need on the rod to slide it back and out.

The 1911 is from armco, it's a custom 1911. It's a colt slide and heavy 9mm coned barrel. The frame is Norinco. The rest of the parts are Ed brown etc. Slide is shortened to about commander length.

Neat little 1911. Once I get this guide rod out, depending on how hard it is I might get a two piece with allan key socket at front.
