Im in need of a 1911. Just for casual paper punching. I'm either wanting the Ruger SR1911
or the Remington R1 enhanced. The Ruger is stainless which looks nicer to me. The Rem is
"enhanced".
If some of you have both i'd like to hear from you....
Or recommendations of something better but for the same apx $1000
Must be .45 and 1911 frame, and yes I've thought about a norc and ammo
but I know i'd end up buying a "better" gun later..

I've heard a lot of good things about the R1 Enhanced. I was looking at the same one when I bought my 1911. I ended up with an STI Ranger II. It's a breeze to take down with a bull barrel and the trigger is silky smooth. It was only 300 more than the R1.

Shooting the Remington Enhanced changed my mind on 1911s (I didn't want one at all, now I'm in the process of acquiring one). Shooting the Ruger left me cold. I can't tell you exactly why, but I really liked the Rem. As always, I suggest you try both and see which one clicks with you.

Can't say much about Remington, since I've never handled one. They look lovely, though - I toyed with the idea of a GI one, but I don't need another pistol.

Got the Ruger and I love it.

Until the end of May, or something, there's $75 rebate on the Remington too. Check Wolverine, or on Remington's site.

I'd toss the SAM Thunderbolt into the mix as well, for the adjustable sight, since it's in the same ballpark as the Ruger/Remington (or cheaper). I've a different SAM, and as far as I'm concerned the build quality is the equal of or better than my Ruger. Finish isn't as nice, but comparing matte black to stainless is apples to rocks. The V2 stainless SAMs are very sharp looking - I fondled a fellows brand new Commander a few weeks back.

I had both, and would recommend the Remington R1E.I found it to be better made and more accurate then the Ruger...The STI Spartan is a bit cheaper in price then the Remington and is good value for the money as well..

Sam Thuderbolt v-2 Stainless if you like nice and NO rattles. I will guarantee the gun will be more accurate than you.LOL

I feel like the R1 has tighter tolerances than the Ruger, though I havent shot the Remington yet. I thought my SR1911 was OK considering I only paid about $700 for it but the trigger and slide had more play than I would like to see on a pistol, I sold the SR1911 but it did shoot pretty nice.

I just forked out for a Kimber Raptor II stainless and while I can't comment on how it shoots yet, I'm absolutely in love with how it feels in my hand.
