I'm looking at purchasing a 1911 and I've never owned one before. I was lookin at the SAM 1911's as they are in my budget. But for $250 more I can get a Para Expert. Is it worth spending the extra $250? It won't be shot a lot but I rather have something reliable for just acouple bucks more.

Nope. Stay away from para. Not even with a 20ft pole.

Now if it was a cdn made para, obviously will be used then yes!.

Sam is a very good gun for its money and you will get thr most out of it and spend that 250$ on half a case of ammo to practice on

Hey...you'd think that was an easy question...I'm a big 1911 fan...had most of them...it's a hard choice to make really...paras have a somewhat sketchy reputation..that said my 16-40 limited was flawless and a very nicely built pistol...paras can be difficult to move on because of that rep...honestly can't say I had a bad experience....again with sam's..I still have my omega 6 ..again it has run and run...zero issues and quite well built...comes down to choice...I'm very happy with the Sam...had a regular gov 1911 9mm..found rpthat a little underwhelming...but solid...handle them both if you can..generally they all can be made to run well with a little knowledge...enjoy the search..

What's your budget?

And what Calibre?

And what are your expectations? Blasting fun, target work, want something good out of the box or willing to tweak a little?

Looking at spending around $500, but I don't mind spending an extra $100/200 if it means a huge difference. Has to be .45, I was seriously looking at the SAM military enhanced. I mainly shoot 9mm so I'm just looking for something fun I can take out every few months and put acouple boxes through it. Don't want to be doing any work on it, so I'm avoiding Norinco. Only thing I'm planning on changing is the grips if needed.

Sounds good

About all else I could think of would be a used Remington R1. They're pretty nice.

Plenty of people like their SAMs, and 45 is certainly what your first one ought to be. ;)

if you are going cheap then get as cheap as you can. buy a norc or get a used gun. if you want a good gun then pay up for it or again looked for a used one. i would not go SAM or other mid cheap guns. i just don't see the point.

Alright my budget has change drastically. Instead of relaxing on Canada Day I'm going to be working overtime, got "permission" to put a third of that pay towards my 1911 budget which will bring my total to $1000. Which opens a lot more doors, and makes it a lot tougher. I'm looking at the Ruger SR1911 Commander (model 6711), anyone here own one or shot one?

If I had 1k I would be searching for a used kimber . But really for that price you should look around and see if any sales are on and get the best deal you can on what ever 1911.

I finally decided! In the beginning of June I sold off the last of my norinco/lower end guns and swore I would only buy higher quality stuff as I was tired and replacing and tinkering around to get things to function properly. Basically I started falling back into the old habit while looking at 1911s, my girlfriend gave me a good smack in the back of the head as shes tired of me being cheap when it comes to spending money on myself..... I decided to go with a brand new Colt Combat Commander.

The Ruger SR1911 is a solid choice in that bracket.

Good gun. Just look around for the best deal. Lots of places have free shipping if you spend over 2-300 dollars. Bullseye is one of them.

Can anyone help with this one....I am looking for an original USGI colt 1911 slide from WW1, WW2 or anything in between. I have the rest of the parts. Any ideas?
