This is a post for all you 1911 buffs out there.

I recently came into possession of this 1911 and have little experience with these pistol and got next to no information from the previous owner re provenance, etc.

What can you tell me about this pistol? Date of manufacture? Who issued it? Where was it used? Value?

Yup, it's a 1911. I'm not qualified to go much beyond that, but it does have the features of an actual 1911 (not an -A1). Someone will be along to ask a few hundred detail questions, but here's one - is the magazine sort of 2 tone?

Ww1 vintage, slab side without the finger cutout would be pre A1 looks to be a wide hammer spur.
That's about all I know. But I think you are one lucky guy!
May I ask how much you paid?

Interesting that on the slide it states "Colt MFG CO" which would indicate that although it's a Springfield Armory, Colt either made the gun for Springfield, or, manufactured some of the parts for Springfield to build that gun.

When I looked at the first photo you provided, first thing I thought was it was a Colt 1911...........until the subsequent photo showed it was a Springfield.

Check out the following link. This guy has the same 1911 you have.

Here's what I think you have. 1911 military mfg 1914-1915, approx 30,000 made. Blue finish. Value in 2015 60% - 2000.00 to 90% - 6750.00 in US Dollars.

You have a nice 1911 made by Springfield Armory (for Colt contract) made in 1914, Toolmanscbs was right on. Less than 35,000 were made from 1914 and 1917, yours is an early example as the first one was in the 72,000 range.

OK
