My forehead is sore guys, so help me out. The shells coming out of my Norc 1911-C are smacking me in the head. I realize this could be an extractor problem and have heard about 'tuning' it (ie bending the extractor).

Any advice here?

I'm a little reluctant to start bending components unless I know how much and in what direction etc.

I would take it to the gunsmith. If is an extractor he can tune it better then anyone or recommend to buy a better one.

The other component to extractor fit is the firing pin stop. If it's a sloppy fit, the extractor can "clock" around the rim, greatly varying the arc it travels on the way to the ground.

An extended ejector would help too. The brass would be kicked out sooner. You can also file the existing ejector, Make a 45 at the right edge of it.

It's probably best to ensure proper fit of the extractor first, before adding to the mix with an extended ejector.

I'm not sold on them for a .45.

I'm w/ you on this one too. I was having the same issue on my 1911 commander as well. I've been getting hit by hot brass oh prolly 4-5 times out of 50 rounds and because of that, now i've got a permanent burnt mark just below my eyebrows:( After following the "extractor tune up" from m1911.org, i don't get brass on the forehead anymore:)

I think we may be on to something here. I noticed the extractor was not perfectly aligned. I'll try turning it a bit and see how that goes.
Thanks guys :)

The problem is if you can turn it, you need a new OS firing pin stop.
