1911 feeding issue...help please! PROBLEM SOLVED! See post #19.

Such many deficient mags is hard to beleive. I would check the mainspring. In 5" 1911's 18½ lbs. springs are usually installed by many gun builders and they are too strong IMHO, making the gun more difficult to shoot. Get and try a 15 lbs. mainspring.

Do you mean a 15 pound RECOIL spring? The factory MAINSPRING is 23 pounds so a 15 pound mainspring would definitely not give reliable ignition.

Welcome to the world of 1911's as I am finding out. It's sometimes handy to have a range or pack of different tension mainsprings from Brownells. I bought one kit that has a spring for almost every weight and it's saved my backside in the last especially using various loads that one finds on sale and the. One day you find yourself in between lots of ammo or different bullet weights or differnt handloads. :)

Glad you got it all sorted out. Oh btw, did you lubricate your frame rails on that 1911 baby?

Cheers, Barney

Mainspring is in the main spring housing and powers the hammer.
Recoil spring is in the slide and is used to control cycling.
Just to clear that up lol

I run a 15 lb main spring in a STI Executive and the ignition is 100% reliable.

The main spring also serves to absorb recoil.
