My Gold Cup and a Rem R1 1911 both feed anything I feed them - 230 RN, 200 RNFP, SWC. A second R1 will bobble if fed anything other than 180 gr SWC's.

I think might be a function of the extractor grabbing the rim as the gun is going into battery. I have Series '70 extractors coming and the gizmo to eliminate the firing pin block. Am I going to need new firing pin retaining plates as well?

you shouldn't need to replace firing pin. I have a R1 converted to 70, factory pin and back plate and extractor. dunno if your new 70 extractor will work with firing pin back plate. if not, I suggest just tweeking the stock extractor to make it stronger or weaker.

are these reloads or factory?

YouTube is your friend. Series 80 is quite simple. I'm not sure if you have an extractor issue though.

Do your 180 cartridges have a shorter OAL than other loads? Maybe try taking extractor for other R1 and install on 2nd R1 with issue.

What kind of jam? Can you describe, or photograph what is happening? What loads at what coal...etc.? Need more info.

Thanks for all the feedback!

200 gr RNFP's feed reliably in another R1 and my Gold Cup, so that isn't the problem. And I'm using the same mags in all three guns. I'm inclined to think it may be a feed ramp problem, as suggested. 180 gr SWC's have the longest OAL. I'm using 5 grs 700-X in all loads, the heavier bullets giving a little more recoil.

I've been told that a Series '70 extractor will work in a Series '80 gun, but will be a tad short of the end of the slide due to the absence of the notch for the firing pin block. I wish Colt had left well enough alone ....

Odd, 180 gr should be the shortest OAL. Not much case holding the bullet if it's the longest OAL. I guess being a SWC the base of the bullet is flush with top of case? Seems like a weird cast on that bullet. Are you crimping your reloads? If it's just the one gun - most likely its the gun - compare feed ramps, maybe swap barrels between the R1s

SWC's require about 1/16th" above the case mouth for seating to OAL. Shortest is the 200 gr RNFP's. My dies are Dillon, so the rds are taper crimped.

As for swapping barrels, if it ain't broke, I don't like to fix it. I'll leave the operating gun alone. We'll see if the extractor is the problem before anything else.
