1911 Frames

Just wondering if 1911 Frames are Standard or are there alot of Differences? There are so many Varients out there but are the frames of the same design? Is so Great, of not, Lets take something like a 1911A1 Frame... Could you build a 1911A1-C (Commander) or a Compact on that Frame?

you can build a commander because it uses the government frame.
Any frame that is stated as being a government model frame or standard 1911 can be built this way. Not so sure about the officer although my friend has an officer model clone, the auto ordnance pitbull, which uses a government model frame. I think there are differences in series 70 and 80's model frames but I have never bothered with owning one of those. I'm a government model fan thru and thru
