1911 Front Sight Point of Impact Question

My original question (below in italics) was answered so thank you very much! As a follow up to that, I was looking at a new front sight as my 1911 shoots significantly high using the same hold as all of my other hand guns. Ideally I want consistency between them and to not have to remember hold over//unders for each gun so I figured the best option was to swap out the front sight in favour of a taller sight. As per below, it is a Novak cut dovetail so I was looking at these on Brownells but they have a roll pin staking and my current sight is not pinned (to the best of my knowledge). Would they still work?

Second question - I measured my FS and it is .160 inches tall. I am shooting consistently ~2-2.5 inches high at 10 yards with the same hold that gives me great results with every other handgun. Would I be best to go to .185 inches and go higher (.215 for example) and file down as necessary?

I have a standard SAM 1911 and was looking at replacing the front sight. Upon researching a little, it looks to be a dovetail type front sight (pretty standard as far as I know) but I understand there are different dovetail "cuts". I was wondering if anyone knew what cut in particular this 1911 uses? I have searched but there isn't too much info on these guys out there. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, go higher and take it out and begin shooting and start filing as necessary. There are formulas based on sight radius and all that however, if you want to nail that baby, do exactly as you said, go high and start cutting her down.
 
My SAM prints absurdly high as well. My smith installed a tall sight and has been milling it down as I test. It's more like a colt gold cup profile and I like mine set so the bullseye kisses the top of the blade like sunset on a lake. It printed 4-5 inches high before.
 
Target sights vs. Combat sights. Target shooters will utilize a 6 o'clock hold (Seems your SAM has these sights). If you're more accustomed to POA is POI at 10 yards, then you're accustomed to Combat sights.
I have both variations in my collection and it really isn't an issue for me, but I understand why you would want all of your pistols/revolvers to hold the same. For me, if it has a dot up front my mind automatically has me aim to cover the target. If I see a front blade, again, my mind almost by automation has me hold at 6 o'clock. I do this whether I shoot mine or someone else's guns, and the hold position remains true (so far) so I'm not certain whether it's an industry standard type of thing, a ratio of odds type of thing, or an absolute commandment written by J. Moses Browning on stone tablets as dictated by the great gun gawd himself? :p
