I'm planning on getting on of Taurus' PT1911 when they become available (and once my tickets get here).
I've done a bunch of digging, and haven't found anyone that hasn't liked it. Obviously, a bunch of people hate all things Taurus, but no reports that I've been able to find on inaccuracy, FTE, FTF, etc.
By all tested reports, it looks like a hell of a gun. Word is the stainless version should be around $750 CAD.

Oddly enough I have always shot better with Commander length 1911's. I have no idea why.

Much to my surprise, I have found this to be true for me too! I don't know why and it defys the common wisdom. But I agree that ultimately you do need to own at least one of each. So which ever you buy first, it doesn't matter in the long run.

There is some compromise: take a look on STI Ranger 2. It has 4.15 barrel on Government frame. $1200 at Freedom Ventures. I'm gonna buy one.

Govt.1911 vs "Commander" Length versions

.... Years ago I shot 'Practical Pistol, and three gun matches, with both the Govt. and the "Combat Commander" both in .45 ACP. The shorter barrel on the Commander was quicker from the holster and on target, but in rapid fire was harder to control, at short ranges the Commander felt better, at longer ranges, the extra weight forward, and longer sight radius gave the advantage to the Govt. ..... currently I have only the Govt.Series 70, and feel very comfortable with it. If I had the money to buy another Colt, it'd , probably be a Commander in 9MM. .....In large part it really comes down to a personal choice and to a lesser extent, intended use. ... David K.:)

Very good info - I think my first will be the tuned Norc Commander from Armco as I only target shoot at pretty close range (7-10 yards - no holster)

I feel very educated :D and I can't wait to get my hands on my first 1911. I'm sure it will be the first of many
