Hey,
wanted some input from you guys to help me make up my mind on what 1911 to get.

I've order a government, but have been rethinking this and can't really make a decision(thanks to OC-3's last post  ). Any reason not to get a commander? Besides being a bit more expensive, is there anything on the down side to getting one? I wouldn't be customizing it, but would replacement parts be any harder to find? I'm sure both will outshoot me, so not worried about one being a bit more accurate than the other. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything that would make me regret it a bit later on.

Thanks,
Jody.

I think government models might a little more inherently accurate. But, due to the weight and more even balance, I tend to shoot better with commander models.

buy the colt combat commander.......all steel frame and change the sights to high profile. don't buy a colt commander light weight.....AL frame. I trained on both and the steel frame feels more like a .45.

i for one like the government model- longer sight radius and everybody makes accessories for it- the only caveat i'll make is the commander hammer and bearvertail, because the spur hammer bites my web- but then i also have an affinity for the amt 7 inch hardballer

full size vs. commander length 1911?

By the numbers I have to say my preference is given to the full length 1911's. But then again I am somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to them. Give me a nice government length GI model 1911 any day.

The only commander length 1911's I've fired were the Para LTC and stainless steel STI Ranger. For me they were just as accurate as their longer brothers but they had more felt recoil. My preference are the 5" models. To avoid 'regrets' buy one of each. ;)

I like the commander better, the government just seems unbalanced to me.

Not sure if it is a balance thing, but I like the look and feel of the Commander better. It does have a little more 'flip/recoil' though.

Not sure which one I shoot best yet......... they are both pretty darn good.

Well, looks like it isn't an overwhelming vote either way...so I'm still undecided

Whatever way it goes, at least I know now I won't regret what I get, so thanks.

And, yea, I would love to get both, but the wish list isn't a short one, so gotta make room for some others..:sniper::shotgun::ar15:

My vote goes to the gov and then the comm. But for the sake of saying what everyone else already has "get both"!!!

Both!!!!

i would definately go with both!! then you can pick which one you like and then give the other one to me!!! but in all seriousness. i have one of each and i love them both equally. i have a really big hand but like the way my commander fits in it and..........well there is nothing to say about the gov' length. they are awesome!!!
