1911 Grip Safety Not Working.

I recently detail stripped my Norinco 1911 Sport Model. When I put it back together and did a function check, I noticed that when I do not depress the grip safety, and pull the trigger with any amount of force, the hammer falls. I have read elsewhere online that it could be due to a lack of spring tension from the leaf spring on the grip safety, however, whenever this happens the grip safety is completely engaged (not depressed)

In all honesty, I am not entirely sure if this always occurred with the pistol since I purchased it (3 years ago) or I simply messed something up while reassembling it. I plan on bringing to a gunsmith, but I figured I would save myself the trouble (and the dollars) if it was a simple problem with me reassembling the pistol. Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be?

Check to see that your parts look like this?

Its only that zig zaggy thingermabob (correct technical term btw) that stops the trigger from moving unintentionally.
 
If it does and I'm not even remotely an expert on the platform I'd venture to guess that either spring like you said or the lower shelf of the grip safety is out of spec?
 
I would take it apart and re-assemble, you could also observe the parts and see if there is unusual wear that might cause the problem.
 
My trigger and grip safety do indeed look like that. However, it seems the zig-zag thing on my grip safety seems to be a great deal more rounded than yours. I wonder if the rounded corners could be to blame.

wouldnt be surprised if it was that round corner's fault. Do you have another grip safety you can try on it?
 
same thing happened to mine, but i messed around with the leaf spring and what not. no big deal, get a new one, but otherwise who needs safeties!
 
Take that grip safety to a local shop and get a small edge tig welded on there and the the two surfaces filed down to make a nice crisp edge again. Just follow the plane of each facet to get that right. It is a simple fix that can be done in minutes, you just need the worn edge rebuilt. Unfortunately the Chinese steel and the quality of the machining on your part looks like it was less than 100%. Once done, dry-fire test. The hammer should never drop if the grip safety is not properly depressed.
 
You can also file a small amount of material of the back side of the two little "feet" on the bottom of the grip safety to get reengagment if there is not a huge amount of movement needed for the safety to hook up again.
 
Yeah I'd hazard A guess and say that the rounded part is worn down to the point of non engagement. Or someone mucked around with it during fitment.

Good advice on here about rebuilding but that assumes you have a welder. And if not its not like metal fab shop rates are cheap.

I'd browse brownells for a new grip safety and see if your local smith has it.

But yah, if you don't have a welder to do it yourself, I wouldn't even bother paying a gunsmith to do it, ordering a new one would be the way to go.

$30-40 on brownells, can't go wrong.

This if you don't mind the gap with the easy fit kind. If you want that tight custom look it'll be much harder.
