I have recently purchased my first handgun..still waiting for it in the mail. It is a 1911 with an Essex frame. I am wondering how it compares to that of a Colt frame, or any other 1911 for that matter? Or if there is really any difference? Here is the gun's description:

"Essex Frame (http://www.essexarms.com/), Colt government 80 series slide. single port comp barrel. plus other upgraded items (trigger, mag well, extended mag release, etc..)The gun has been finished in a teflon coating. Also Included is wood grips and 3 mags. The 2 blued steel mags are McCormick shooting stars. I am also including 2 new replacement springs and followers for the McCormick mags."

What do you guys think?

I think you just got a hell of a gun for the $$... but then, I am biased.. :D

Truthfully Jake, you will find your first gun comes and goes quite quickly.. Before you know it, it will become a choice of not knowing which of the many you will accumulate to take to the range...;) It is a disease you know...

You poor bastard......you will have 1911-itis :D :p . If you find you like them you will never be able to get enough of them . Case in point......ME !!

Nice. I don't think the bullet cares much who made the frame, as long as it fits. Colt quality is the best anyway. I don't think you are ill equipped :).
I like my Colt Combat Elite anyway.
