Anyone own or played with one of those fancy Coonan 1911 chambered in 357Mag:confused:
Nice looking pistol .....but a little pricey ! Wonder if they can fire 38spcl

No personal experience, but what I get from the FAQ on their website is that the magazines can accept both .357 and .38, and that SOME .38 ammunition might be able to cycle the gun if you also change the recoil spring. I would guess that means you'll need fairly hot .38 to get it to work (+P or whatever) but they make no specific claims.

"...Wonder if they can fire 38 Spcl..." Any handgun that fires .357 can shoot .38's. However, like sparq says, a .38 may not cycle the action. Better to load .357 brass to .38 velocities anyway. Coonans aren't actually 1911's either. Much bigger.

Traditionally, 1911's don't do too well with either rimmed or bottleneck ctgs.

I'd say if you want .357 juice from a 1911 go with something in 10mm.

The Coonan does have a certain cool factor about it, though.
