I recently acquired STI Trojan in 40 S&W. This pistol is like new but does not lock open on the last round. The lock open mechanism is not worn and has a crisp edge. I ordered 4 new STI mags but the problem is the same with all of them. I looked through the ejection port while inserting the mag and the lifting tab on the magazine follower goes right by lock open lever. I don't want to start bending this tab on all of the mags. Could I have a defective lock open lever right from factory. I guess I should be asking the factory but maybe someone else has experienced the same problem.

It should be the mags, but I wouldn't worry about it, the slide lock is useless anyways. Most guys will disable them.

+1 Musky.

On most of my 1911's, I just bought a spare EGW slide stop, and ground off most of the lobe that meets the mag follower. I'd also lightly groove the face of the slide stop where the detent rides to keep it down unless I was thumbing it up.

it should be your slide stop. i had the same problem before, i bought the egw slide stop........no more problem
before i forget, i called egw 1st they told me it will cure the problem because of my slide stop. its true!

So most 1911 users don't like the slide to lock-open after the last shot. Why??

I hate it when a semi-anything doesn't lock open after the last shot.

Because it simplifies the manual of arms. If the gun fails for any reason, tap-rack-bang and your off. Or you are manually locking the SOB open, ditching the mag, and addressing the problem, all the time cursing that you're blowing the stage.

The other main reason is that any gun that can lock open automaticly can also lock open prematurely.

I have a brand new Trojan 9mm.
It does the same thing on a couple of the mags.
This has been a common problem with the follower not being high and at an angle.
Remedy?.....Try Springfield mags with the ramped follower.....quite pricey....but according to the forums...this mag is the king.
Chip Mcc. has a different follower design....they stay open all the time.
I'm contemplating on changing all my STI mags to something else.
I have Mec-Gar for all my other pistols....it's time to try them for my Trojan.
I'm with you.....why should I have to put bends and kinks into my new mags....this should not be.

Good luck

Check the slot in the slid where the slide stop lever goes into. Is it worn? Is the slide stop lever worn where it locks into the slide?

If not then it is your mags...

I just found out that EGW does not make a slide stop for a 40. The 40 slide stop reaches in further to catch the magazine follower than does a 45.

For my purposes, it wouldn't matter as I dress the inside so it won't make contact anyway.
