as the title says, i'm looking for a magwell for a 1911 45.I have been tod to look for one that attaches to the grip screws? I will be using this on my other 1911s.so i dont want to have to take it to a gunsmith..thanks

Hogue makes a grip set which includes magwell and mainspring housing and requires no fitting. I have seen one on a Kimber and it looked and felt great (I love the feel of Hogue grips). I would still prefer an S&A magwell but the Hogue set up is a much cheaper alternative and looks like it would function the same.

its the first time someone actually quoted one of my threads, might shed a tear of joy :)

in the end, I went for this unit right here:

And I eventually moved onto this one:

both are mainspring housing mounted magwells. SVI also makes one, available from CRAFM for 150$ (also mainspring housing mounted)
 
I just put a Wilson Combat one on my Kimber TLE/RL II.... The one like Charles.

I like the feeling and weight of the metal rather then keeping that plastic one.
