I have a magazine for my 1911 that wont allow the slide stop to release when the magazine is empty, but once it is removed, the slide will function normally and release... any ideas? Other magazines function fine.

When an empty mag is in the gun, pulling back on the stop should not let the slide go all the way forward. The empty mag is supposed to push up on the slide stop .
With the empty mag in the gun & the slide back, if you push down on the slide stop by hand, the slide should go forward.

If if does the above, it is working 100%.

Get over it.

If you want to lower the slide, do so after you remove the magazine and do so by grasping the slide with the support hand and lowering the slide under control.

Do not drop your slide on an empty chamber like a pile-driving hammer.

So what you are saying is that the slide stop should not relase the slide forward on an empty mag?

It will release on all mags but this one, and yes it will release no problem without any magazine....

Is this magazine junk or am I just missing somthing... It still feeds fine.

Correct

Think of it this way Mag is empty slide stay`s back add new mag hit slide release ready to go = speed

Wrong mag is empty you drop mag add new mag and have to rechamber the round your self = Slow and requires two hands

The slide lock (being dumb and mechanical) will release the slide on an empty mag given enough downward pressure (sometimes LOTS of downward pressure). The operator (being human and intelligent) should not, under any circumstance, apply downward pressure to the slide lock with an empty magazine in the mag well. The operator should follow Wendell's instructions, thereby proving himself to be of superior intelligence to the slide lock.
