Hi,

I have a 1911 Tacpac and was looking for a extra mag. I found someone selling a Colt browning 1911 8 round mag and was wondering if it would work in the sig 1911? I know there are some differences between the sigs and other 1911's.

Anyone know?

any 1911 mag will work in any other 1911.
Mag chambering dictates feed pip opening, so you'll need the correct caliber mag however.

Only other concern is single stack vs double stack, as the double stacks are wider and meant for 2011s but they'll generally be marked as such too.

perfect. So any single stack 45 mag should work without issue..

Thanks
Well, no.

Any magazine for a Colt 1911 in .45acp will fit. Whether it will actually work or not, is usually determined by how much $ you spend vs, save.

Mec-Gar=GTG
Colt=GTG
Wilson Combat=GTG
Nighthawk= GTG
Chip McCormick=GTG

In my experience, stay away from Rock Island, Metal form, Kimber, Pro Mag, etc., etc., the cheaper ones. No bueno. Now others may swear by a Kimber magazine, or a fill in the blank, but I've had FTF with these mags. I could have received lemons, and 1000 others on the same run are fine, but I've had hang-ups with them. I won't waste my cash on them.

Another general statement; 9 times out of 10, used magazines that you find on EE or Gunnnpost or the like are mags that aren't running. Don't buy them. Buy new.

If I were asked, based on price and availability, I would, and do, recommend Mec-Gar magazines for 1911's. They never fail, always run, are readily available and are very well built. I prefer 7 round stainless magazines in my 1911's.

My suggestion for trouble free operation and quality is to go with the Wilson Combats. They have that concept nailed down.
You might pay a little more, but better that than fooling with cheaper mags that may work with only certain ammo (usually 230 grain ball) and sporadically with everything else. Mags are definitely not the place to save money.
