1911 mags - any adivce

All the advice on different brands got me wondering. Is there any problem ordering mags from the US?

I've ordered lots directly from Mecgar and Kimber. The KimPro stainless 8 rnd .45 mags come with two size bumper pads, removable base plate and I've never had a problem with the 12 I use. They are far superior to stock Kimber mags and you need to order by phone (about $30 ea.). I would try the Wilson 47D's if I had the opportunity sometime or some of the others recommended here. Main thing is to get ones that are smooth loading and not gritty/scratchy.

Wilsons +/or McCormicks... ;)

or it's a toss up between those and the generic, cheapie ones that come with the Norinco 1911's.... :p

Kimber Pro 8 rounders. Smooth to feed rounds in. Polished stainless finish. Sold my Chip McCormicks and never looked back. TSE usually has a bunch.

Metalforms! We had a CGN group buy on these a couple of years back because of that discount for bulk purchases. Haven't heard any complaints from the buyers since then.
One of the three mags I got on that group buy split right down the seam after a few uses. The factory did replace it, however. No problems since.

I have 5 8 round McCormick power mags and three 10 rounders and NEVER had any issues in any 1911. One FTFeed but that was a result of the guy I lent the magazine to had a crappy .45 semi-wad cutter that was not crimped properly and I could see between the case and the bullet.

Always lock back. The Wilson magazines also look nice and work well. Some would say the folower design on the Wilson 47D is better than that of the power mags.

For the people who recommended Tripp, has anyone had any problems ordering magazines directly from them? I'm assuming you guys kept it to 3 or under to keep the cost under $100 to avoid triggering the need for an export permit?

This is embarrassing, but those Norc mags work really well, they don't look good but they do work

Curiously, the two that came with my spankin' new Norc compact last summer perform very well.

They look like hell & when you load them up they feel "gritty" but the feed/function so far is perfect. I'd hate to clean 'em & jinx things.... ;)
