1911 mags in 9mm

At 4000 rounds, which incidentally is about a fifth of the 20,000 rounds Todd's gun has gone, to be on par with Todd's gun would mean it had had 2 stoppages.

If he gets to 10,000 rounds with no stoppages I'd say the gun is measurably more reliable than the Heirloom gun...but at this point to say "there's something wrong with Todd's gun, he gets a stoppage every 2000 rounds or so, and I've got none in 4000" is really silly IMO - particularly when there were an unknown number of stoppages in the past on the STI, and when Todd's already tossed mags as unreliable for generating a failure rate that is currently not significantly different than the one in question here.

Todd's gun isn't the Heirloom one, it's a Springfield Custom Shop gun designed by what's his face from the FBI (brain freeze right now). His next 1911 and possibly the next test gun is the one Burton is building for him.

For a PPC gun you're only loading 6 rounds anyway, go with what's cheap and reliable (most mags become much more reliable when downloaded). Also, I've always wondered why no one (seemingly) shoots 45 in PPC. The accuracy is easy (relatively speaking) to get with 45 and the extra diameter could buy you some extra points in the close shots.

Right; I forgot about that. Still, the point remains the same. The odds that an off-the-shelf STI, which has an unknown failure rate and a claimed flawless round count approximately 20% of Todd's gun built by SCS, is significantly more reliable than a gun with a MRBF of 2000 is are not good. And the fact that the believed round count since failure is something like 4000, and we're comparing it to a gun with an MRBF of 2000, including mags that have been retired as a result of their unacceptable failure rate, and yet the comment is made that something is wrong with the test gun...again, that's just silliness.

It's not that STI can't build a gun...it's that the numbers here do not support the assertion.

10round 9mm mags?

I started with ETM's but the last few I bought had a lot of issues with the 10th round. Took a little tinkering to get them to lock into my guns with 10rounds.

I was not impressed and was going to buy some of the Tripp mags until my shooting buddy showed me the Metalform mags he picked up from Gunnar. I tried them and was very impressed. Worked flawlessly.

Consequently I bought some as well. At around $30 per I think they are a good buy. Only issue I could see is the plastic baseplate...not good if you shoot indoors or practice on a concrete floor.

well if you factor in that the only issues he's had were rounds that were so badly remade that they had bulges in them that stopped them from chambering, and that that is the only reason for any jams, I'd say his experience is useful to pay attention to. He's now run the gun for twice as long as Todd has been able to with no failures attributed to the gun or mags. As he gets more rounds down range, he may or may not experience more issues. The TC mags though, if you talk to people who have been struggling to run 9mm 1911's, are the ones most seem to recommend with Wilson being second. Todd's gun is just one guys experience, not indicitive of what anyone else can expect.
oh, and because Scott Warren

Similar situation here: Spartan running now ~3000 trouble free rounds using Tripp Cobra AND Wilson ETM. Both have worked 100% for me, I just like Tripp better.

Edit: one major difference between the two is that when inserting the mag loaded with 10 rounds and with the slide closed, the Wilson requires a considerable wack to seat, more than I feel comfortable with. The Tripp on the other hand, just glides in.
