Just bought a Colt Competition 1911 in 9mm. Decided to upgrade the cheap plastic mainspring housing. So I purchased a 1911 Auto Drop in Mag-Well from dlask. Link --> https://dlaskarms.com/collections/1911-parts/products/1911-auto-drop-in-mag-well

I can't get the mainspring housing pin back in. The Youtube videos seem simple enough but I can't get it to work. Also my hammer wont go down now
:mad::mad::mad:

What am I doing wrong??

1911 parts are not usually drop in, especially if you mix and match brand parts.
A caliper and a file might be in order. A sharpie pen can also help to find spots that rub.
Don't forget, grind the cheapest part only.
In this case, if you make a mistake, you rather scrap a MSH than a frame.

Does the mainspring in the new housing compress when out of the gun ?
If yes then the problem is probably elsewhere. If it won't compress out of
the gun then it needs correcting.
If that seems okay then be careful when you put the mainspring housing on
to the pistol. Make sure the the 3 finger sear spring does not get moved out
of position and also make sure that the lower end of the hammer strut goes into
the housing right in the middle and sits on top of the plunger. If not
it will not compress and the hammer will not go back and the housing will not go all
the way on.

If the hammer doest go down, it means that your internals of the mainsprring are incorrectly installed. Or the hammer isn't lined up to the cap proprtly.

with the hammer pulled back, push the msh housing in, do you notice tension or the msh spring compress pushing the msh in?

Or you can find a small pin or screwdriver and install the msh, but use the smaller pin/screwdriver as a replacement of the msh pin, does the hammer pull back?

I might add, pull the safety out of it to reinstall the sear spring. Makes it easy to see how things line up. Slide the mainspring housing onto the Sear spring just slightly to hold things in place, replace the safety and viola it all fits together.

with the hammer up there is no tension on the MSH. with the hammer down there is alot of tension on the MSH. I used a punch to secure it in place to put the pin back into the frame. however the pin doesn't want to go more than halfway

With the hammer down to take the tension off, that pin that goes through and
holds the mainspring housing in place should go all the way through.
What I have done is take a punch or similar object, insert it into the side where the pin
needs to go through & lever up the mainspring housing to ensure that all the holes line up.
Then tap the pin through .
It can be a tight fit but if it is halfway through then it should go all the way.

I have the slide off. the pin only goes halfway. Is it possible it's being blocked by the retaining spring in the MSH

My suggestion would be to take out the pin, then take off the MSH and see if there is some obstruction.
Try putting the pin in through the MSH with the MSH out of the frame.
It that works then I would put the MHS back into the frame , without the hammer strut in it, so there is
no tension and see if the pin will go all the way through.
It may be just a very tight fit fit or perhaps a little out of spec.

Do the feet portion of your new 1911 Auto Drop in Mag-Well from Dlask sit parallel with the bottom of the frame? Remove the pin, slide the housing up slowly and look on the left/right sides, you may have to bend one or both sides down a hair. Also try it with the screw loose at the bottom of the Dlask magwell.

If the msh internals aee jnstalled properly, the msh retainer should move out of the way of the msh pin with a little more persuasion.

maybe this link will work. tried posting a picture. I think it's installed correctly, put in everything the same way it came out. pin won't go in at all. I put the pin in before the spring to test a theory and the pin won't move. that MSH spring and retainer pin won't move

Maybe it's my computer but your link isn't working to the picture.
All of your MSH bits are in the right way around?
