1911 Novaks on a BHP?

will they work on the hi-power or will it make POI too far off. i have a line on a fresh set of tritium night sights, but they are for a 1911.

yes i know the slide has to be machined.

they probably won't fit the slide properly, if they do, the POI will be out. Buy a set of HP sights, lots of good ones on Brownells

I have an HP here that I'm wondering what to do with - it's a mid-80's gun - lousy sights, heavy trigger and the mags don't fall free. Canuck, I'm assuming that's pretty much a full house Novak, and I'm wondering a few things - how's the trigger, and do he mags drop clean away on changes?? (I'm assuming the mag disconnect is history?) Oh yes, and how easy is the safety to use - the stocker on mine is pretty much like a tiny immoveable bump.

Yes, thats a Novaks gun.
The trigger has been worked on. I don't know what they do to it, but its a much better trigger than on my other HPs
The mag safety has been removed and the mags drop free
The safety lever is not hard to operate, other than being awkward to get to - maybe I have short thumbs but I have always found the HP safety hard to handle, even the MK III safety.
Still my fav handgun tho.....

I looked at Novaks instructions and it's pretty straight forward to mill the slide to fit the sights.

If I actually get a BHP, I'll be using the lower profile old sights. I noticed on the MKIII BHP, there is already a flat section milled into the slide so it might accept the novaks straight away.

I put a set of Xpress sights in my HP practical, then a thin set of navadrex grips and removed the mag disconnect and replaced the hammer and sear with a cylinder and slide "no bite" set. The hammer alone is the best mod i ever made, she no longer chews me every shot. And the trigger is much better. Did have to refit the safety when i changed out the sear though.

The trigger is heavy and the mags don't drop out because of the daft mag safety. There's a plunger that rubs on the mag and the friction of that has to be overcome. The wee pin in the trigger holds the spring and plunger in. Field strip and poke out that wee pin and the mag safety should come out the back of the trigger inside the frame. Easier to do than describe.
Just be aware that both IPSC and IDPA rules disallow removing it. Stupid as that rule is. The mag safety is as very European police thing.

Novak sights need the slide milled to fit the BHP, at least the older ones.

as you see, there is a missing sight BLADE. there is no hole through the slide for anything to get peened. the guy before tried to drill a hole or something, but that failed badly.

rear is not much better. this isnt a MkI or MkII, it is a FEG, FN branded knockoff.

is there a rule about pinning the mag disconnect so it no longer acts on the magazine, still there and not removed.
