1911 owners

Field strip after the range, every 1000 rounds or so a detail strip. I was hesitant to do it at first cuz I thought I would make a mess out of it but there are a ton of You tube vids out there that make it easy. I waited too long the first time and my extractor got all full of gunk, wouldn't extract. Okay now but I pay closer attention. I also got myself a small air compressor to blow out dust and grit from the internals and my mags. From what I have seen with some other guns, 1911 is a breeze to fully disassemble/re-assemble.

I do a full detail strip before a major match. take the top end off and lube the rails/lugs everytime i shoot. detail strip when it looks too dirty. gone a couple thousand rounds between detail stripping before. It all depends on how the gun is built
