I really want to buy a 1911 pistol in .45 caliber. I looked at the Remington r1 1911 and the Norinco government model and I can't choose which one to purchase. I know the Norinco government 1911 pistol is about $325, and the Remington r1 1911 is around 800 bucks, but price dosen't matter becuase my budget is around 1000 bucks. If anyone ever played with ethier of these pistols, I would like to hear some reviews and comparsions.

I bought a new Norinco .45 Chrome 2 weeks ago, and sold it yesterday. Fit was terrible. A good friend bought it because he is good with stuff that needs work. I'm a woman, and I need something that is good to go out of the box. I have a SAM Omega 6 9mm and love it. Nice and tight and not one problem.

I am replacing the Norc. with the SAM Thunderbolt eventually. Need to save up a bit more. LOL.

Get the Police or Sport model of the Norinco, or even the plain unmarked one. Can't beat them.
I'm a little disappointed with the chromed one. Fit, trigger pull, reliability, and accuracy is good on mine .
But the finish looks like $hit, IMO. And the adjustable sights don't adjust far enough, for me to get centered.

One is nice for 300 and the other is nice for 700.
You won't regret getting the Remington if you appreciate the difference between well made and made by cheap labour.
Or you could get a BBQ gun (Sig STX) for about 1200.

If you are going to polish it as much as you shoot it get the Remington.
If you want to make a lot of noise get the Nork and 400.00 worth of ammo.

The Thunderbolt is a lot of gun for the money but the safety on the one I handled was way poorly fitted.

Take a look at the Ruger SR1911, US made by Ruger..I personally have had zero problems with any Ruger.
Fit and finish is great stainless steel construction cocobolo stocks, very accurate a real bargain at $750-$770.
About the same money as a norc plus trigger job plus grips..but none of that changes the fit or metallurgy.

The Remington feels and looks good. I found a Para Expert to be value for dollars. A production custom with bells and whisles will be 1200 plus but half the fun of a 1911 is buying parts and feeling you are making the perfect gun.

I have 2 Remingtons, R1 Enhanced and R1 Carry. I don't like GI models, but the Remingtons are great for the money. Ruger's SR1911 is an even better value especially if you like stainless. Ruger is also series 70. You got a decent budget - Sig Sauer 1911 Tac Pacs are best bang for the buck with a really good durable melonite finish. STI are awesome guns but weak blueing wears quick.

if your budget is 1000 i wouldnt be looking at a Norc.
i have 3 and they are fun to play with but they are nothing compared to a 700-1000 gun.

if you want a nice 1911 for under 1000 then look Ruger SR1911 or Remmy R1 Enhanced (must be the enhanced, carry is over 1000) or a Kimber Custom II.
i dont have much trigger time with the STI but a lot of people like them as well.

but i can speak for the Ruger and the Kimber.
both are fantastic guns for the money.
fit and finish you cant beat the kimber, ive got the Custom II which is their entry level one and i paid 880 i think for it on sale (regular like 980) and it is perfect.
i also picked up a ruger sr1911 at the same time and while its not as tight at the kimber it is on of my fav guns hand down.
so much so that i recently picked up the Ruger SR1911 CMD (the shorter version 1911) and i LOVE that gun.
ive shot the Remmy Enhanced and its a nice gun, very similar to the Ruger.

ive also recently picked up a SAM and have shot a couple, real nice guns, a step up from the Norc's but still a couple steps down from the rugers and kimber.

in short, if you have the money go with the Kimber Custom II or the Ruger SR1911 if you prefer the stainless and can find a tight one, you wont regret it.

think i have a pic from last year showing a bunch of them lined up;

sorry, im a visual person.

If money is not an issue , you might as well buy the best that you can afford if you are really sure that you want and will use a 45 cal. I have a Norc that i bought many years ago back when China was making them out of recycled railway ties ( very tough steel ); I put Hogue grips on it and have never had a problem......but i seldom ever use it now as I have other handguns in the stable that use cheaper ammo , but I will always keep it as it is the only 45 cal. that I currently have and i know that it is there if I ever want to shoot 45 again....

At the beginning of this addiction I always chose and bought guns on a budget. Later, I realized I was never happy with budget... Or with just one handgun! You can save some money by saving money and buying something you are gonna actually keep instead of taking a loss on something you will sell with in a year (or less) of buying. It's worse if u buy new and have to pay PST and GST.

Norcs are good enuff for the money but IMO they are just like most things out of china, disposable.
