1911 Question

I have a Series 70 Gov't Model, function is flawless and shoots tight. The slide when in battery sits approx. 1-2 mm forward at the rear of the frame. What is the cause of this? Is it a link issue? Any info/opinions would be appreciated. Pic's can be supplied if that would help.

"...1-2 mm forward of the frame..." Where? Mind you, 1-2mm isn't a lot.

The barrel stops the top part of the handguns forward movement. The two little "ears" you see on the bottom of the barrel come to rest on the mag. release (pin). If these "ears" are cut too deep the slide will sit forward on the frame. If they are not cut deep enough the slide will sit to the rear of the frame.

Actually the lugs come to stop on the slide stop. Most likely the barrel was replaced and the fit is different. That or poor workmanship. The lugs could be cut to fix this but you don't want to ruin the fit. Alternately the slide could be modified. If your concerned I would take it to your gunsmith.
