In a previous post my safety issue was that when the safety was engaged and trigger was pulled it would fire i have changed the safety .Now when the pistol is on safe and trigger is pulled u feel a slight click and when safe is put in fire position the hammer goes to half-#### ....

when i changed my safety it needed no fitting just dropped into place could this be the issue or is it that i need a new sear spring aswell....
 
Did you install a used thumb safety?
Sometimes a person might get lucky. Most times the new 1911 thumb safety has to be fitted to the gun.

The safety is not fully engaging the sear, so when you press the trigger with the safety on, the click you feel is the hammer releasing from the sear and getting blocked by the safety. You will need a safety that has extra materials in its engagement node so it can be fitted to the gun. A new safety with enough meat on it for fitting will not drop straight in.
 
It doesn't matter whether it is STI, Willson Combat, Ed Brown etc. If it is a new part, you should not be able to put it in without fitting. If it went in, there is something else wrong with your gun.

I swapped safeties on my 1911 and after a bit had problems, switched back to the old safety and had the same problem you have. ended up taking it to a gunsmith. 1911's are finicky beasts and you need the right tools to do trigger jobs properly.
 
The saftey you put in is not properly fitted. On 1911's there's no such thing as a factory drop in part. Most likely some of your other fire control parts are undersize, so the nominal part is not large enough to function properly. If you know how to fit the saftey properly, you could have a good tig welder build up the surface then file and stone to refit it.

If a new safety drops into your 1911 and has full travel right off the bat, it's too small. When it goes in it shouldn't be able to move into the full safe position. You then slowly file and stone the engaging surface to fit. If you take too much off, you start again with a new part ;) Same deal with a new safety on a HP.

Standard check for 1911 safety function. Put the safety on, pull the trigger. The hammer shouldn't move at all. Take the safety off, the hammer STILL shouldn't move at all. The fact that your's is falling to half #### means that your safety is not blocking the sear properly. The other contributing factor could be a poor trigger job that modified the hammer hooks improperly, but most likely you just need an oversized safety. Don't use it as is, sooner or later the half #### notch WILL fail, and your pistol will discharge when you take the safety off if it's loaded.
