1911 slide stop/hammer issues

So I have this Norc Commander.

With the slide locked back, and released over an empty mag two things happen:

1. The slide stop is damn hard to push down to release (haven't tried it while actually chambering a round yet)

2. Many times in this scenario the hammer drops to the half #### when the slide slaps home...

I'm new to the 1991 platform...so, what am I doing wrong, or what needs replacing?

Hard to diagnose without seeing the pistol. If you have another 1911 try swapping out the slide stop and check again. The original slide stop may need some cleanup with a file. The second problems sounds unrelated. How old is the pistol? I would take the pistol apart and instpect the hammer and sear.

Also try not to let the slide slam home on an empty chamber, it is not good for the gun. What helps me when testing is a 45 snap cap in the chamber.

are you pushing the slide stop down with an empty magazine in the gun? if so it cold be the follower is jamming the slide stop. look down through the port to see how it is sitting. also try dropping the slide (holding onto it) with out a mag in the gun to see if it is as hard.

as for the hammer drop it could be one of two things. your three finger leaf spring could be set up to weak. try putting more tension on the left hand leaf. the second choice is that your sear is worn or not cut right.

Yes first try the slide stop without the mag! I forgot that first step...it's late
