Wondering if any one can help me with this one:

I put a new slide stop, slide stop plunger and slide stop plunger spring into my 1911. The slide does not lock back with an empty magazine (magazine is engaging the slide stop).

I'm assuming the spring is too strong or there is too much friction between the plunger and the slide stop.

Is there a tuning or break-in procedure that needs to be done?

Any help would be appreciated,

Scott

maybe check that the gap in the slide stop that engages the slide cutout is wide enough to fully seat into the notch.
a picture of the drivers side of you 1911 with a close up of the slide stop in it's top travel position might help.
I can see no other reason for the slide stop to not engage the slide notch if the magazine is pushing it up with sufficient force.
will it fully engage by hand but fails to engage after last round is fired from the mag or is this simply a bench failure upon instal?

Can you manually lift the slide lock lever and lock the slide open? Is it pretty stiff to lock/release? Aw 45ACP pointed out, it could be the gap/slot in the slide stop isn't wide enough for the slide to fit into or the arm isn't long enough to make contact with the mag's lifter.. but you confirmed that it is making contact. hmmm

You can push it in so it does fit. The mags are brand new so I think surface where the plunger contacts the slide stop. Or, it could be the plunger is a little rough and sticks a little too well on to the slide stop.

Did it work with the old parts ? If yes, then replace the old parts one at a time to see which new part is the culprit . New mags do not necessarily mean good mags. Usually it is the fault of the mag when this happens.

You can push it in , but will it push up, can you flick it up and down with your thump , same as old one?
If not you have to figure out why, hitting, spring, plunger not free, check all this without the mag.

Check it by taking the barrel and slide off. Insert the slide stop, insert a magazine, see if the mag engages the slide stop and forces it up. Occasionally, with stacked tolerances, the slide stop can be "almost" long enough, but not quite. I have fixed two such instances; one on my pistol and one on another members pistol. I build them up with Tig then hand work them to engage properly. If such is the case, send me a PM; I will fix it for free, just cover the cost of shipping.
