1911 slide stop issue?

Hey guys, was out at the range with some guns the other day including my SAM 1911 Commander, it ran perfect with the hundred rounds I fired thru it.

-Today I field stripped and cleaned it all up and upon function checking, the slide no longer stays back on an empty mag.

-So I took the slide back off the frame, put the slide stop back in, then inserted an empty mag again to see if the mag pushes the slide stop up. It does.

-Re-assemble, same problem. Slide doesn't lock back on empty mag, and it's with all three of my mags. The gun worked perfectly at the range, slide locking back on last round and everything, so I don't think it's a mag issue. I have only like 300 rounds total through the gun, could the slide stop have worn out already? Or am I just missing something totally obvious here? I'm no expert on 1911's, this is my only one, so any help would be appreciated.
 
are you using a buffer? if so that's your problem.....they don't lock back on a commander

if you're not using a buffer....what mags are you using? Chip McCormick mags with the tilting follower? they often don't lock the slide back

try wilson combat mags and report back
 
Either your follower or your slide stop worn.

My chips locked back evertime.
 
Perhaps when you fire the pistol, the slide is coming back with enough force to come
ALL the way back & engage the slide stop. I would suggest trying the gun again at the range.
If it only locks back under recoil then the slide stop may require a little bit of fitting.
 
Make sure the slide stop is inserted fully in the frame, that it's flat end is making it past the plunger tube pin, and fully engaged in the frame slot. Seen that happen.

When all else fails, go back to the beginning, sometimes it's the simplest little thing, overlooked because of...

Agree try a different mag first. Only other thought is maybe during cleaning it got some bit of something in it. Seems strange it would be fine then just stop all of a sudden.
 
Ok I took my mags apart and cleaned them real good, also took a good look at the slide stop and it's notch. Everything looks fine to me, no visible wear or breakage. I can get the slide to lock back now if I pull it gently to the rear. If I pull sharply it won't catch, so I'm thinking it may be the mags after all, just not enough oompf in the springs to force the stop up into the notch. Or maybe that's normal for a 1911?
I'm used to my M&P and 92fs where I can just pull the slide back sharply and it catches instantly on an empty mag. Like I said, the gun worked at the range, I'll have to get it back out and try it again. Thanks for all the responses guys!

Nope no buffer, just a bone stock gun other than VZ grips. I'm using the ACT mags that came with it. I think I'll try some of those Wilson mags
 
Maybe your mags just don't seat deep enough but you aren't having any feeding issues. Humm, maybe your slide lock is undersized? Contact Wolverine and I'm sure they'll get you sorted out.
