1911 spartan,colt 1911 competition or dan wesson. Anyone got one?

Any input that you may have be appreciated especially if you own one or just to vote


I am looking to purchase a 1911 sig spartan or colt competition 9mm( stainless or black)

My concerns is am i really just buying 1k sig and paying the extra $500 becuase its a spartan. The same with colt. Arent they really 1k pistols but paying the extraa 500 because its colt?

* anyone have a spartan? Hows the finish held up after 2k plus rounds?

* i have a few 1911s in all 45acp so 9mm colt would be nice to have. Cheaper on the ammo and something different. I have no problem saving money and buying used but it seems like sig spartans used dont come up often on cgn.

Whichever one i bought. I would be keeping for a lifetime.

***update maybe thinking about 1911 dan wesson Specialist besides the sig and colt

I have a sig tacops and that spartan is the same gun essentially, trigger,hammer, beavertail etc all the same. All the internals are probably the same same also. The rest is just.window dressing.

Thats what i thought. Majority is the same outside of controls and finish. Only few members at the range have a sig 1911 and they seem to love them

Anyone have experience with a dan wesson 1911 Specialist
 
If i were going non-traditional, the Tacops would be hard to beat. I shoot a friend's on a regular basis, and it is quite the piece. Sig really hit the nail on the head. Plus, it's all black. You can't get tired of it, unlike when you molon that labe.

Yes, anything out of the DW is a fine piece. Off those listed, I'd say that's top of the heap, especially in fit an finish. American ideals with CZ oversight. If you're spending that kind of money, you won't be going in the wrong direction.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to how much you're willing to spend. A $500 shoots a whole lot like one that is $5000. The drive just feels different. If I weren't buying from a custom shop, or vintage, I'd go Springfield TRP, Dan Wesson anything, Colt Combat, and then likely a Sig. Through Ed Brown and Les Baer in there and the story changes a little ;)
 
Dan Wesson PM 9 is by far superior in fit finish and quality parts. All tool steel components. No MIM like some of the others you mentioned. Specialist is very nice with less features than the PM 9. Sig needs a special holster and has weird tiny safeties. Gucci ones are not worth 4-5 grand. Nice but not that nice.
 
Would agree that the DW is the best of your options listed by a fair margin in terms of fit, finish and materials. Maybe not surprising as it is a lot more. worth it to stretch the budget imo. I’d then probably look at Springfield and colt. skip the sig. not a fan of the sig slides, all the ‘fancy’ editions are purely cosmetic and not to my taste, and while i’m sure the majority are fine shooters, i’ve heard mixed review from guys I trust. Given all options available on I just wouldn’t bother unless you really like the bling factor.

I only had to do some minor tweaking to my tacops, the trigger takeup was a bit more than I like, they have factory triggers with the tabs so easy. The sear in them looks hand stoned from the factory, I was planning on doing some work on it, I put it under my jewels loup and the angles we correct, stoned and relieved. Hammer hooks done. All I had to do was adjust the sear spring and remove the series 80 parts, 3.25lb trigger pull. Sigs are very good guns and those details once inside it surprised and pleased the hell out of me.

The Sig spartan is quite the gun with a lot of nice touches. My range buddy bought one and I was impressed with the overall quality and accuracy.
