What do you got?
Recoil master or standard springs?
Bull barrel or bushing?

Other 9mm 1911s?

I had a Ranger 2 9mm. Excellent shooter but I just prefer full size. Thoughts?

I'm the opposite....I find the 5" just a bit less balanced then the Commander sized. I also prefer a bull barrel over a bushing as there is only the one contact surface.....barrel to slide. Standard plug or reverse is fine with me, never had a recoil master though.
I'm also more of a .40 and .45 guy for 1911's.....9mm is a bit light for the size and heft of these :)

I love my Trojan in 9. Its been a great gun. Mine has a Armco 2 3/4lb trigger thats still crisp (previous owner) and a smith and alexander magwell. I had Rock Island Armory for a brief time, the Trojan spoiled me. I would bring them both out to the range and shoot a mag through the RIA take it out of the holster, put it back in the case and holster the STI. I can shoot the Trojan way faster and cleaner than any other pistol i own. I pulled it out in a class once to shoot the final drill after shooting my M&P, beat everyone in the class on one run. Cant go wrong with it IMO.

I've got a Ranger 2 9mm, I really like the full size frame for my larger hands, but the proportions of the shorter slide/barrel. After holding it, the proportions of a full size 5" doesn't look or feel right to me anymore!

I have an STI Lawman 5.0 in 9mm that I'm about to roll over 5k rounds on very soon. Im going to post a full review on here as soon as I do but to date it has been very impressive. Great accuracy and surprisingly reliable. One thing to note about the STI 9's though is that if your going to run 10 round mags, the bottom of the ejector has to be relieved, if not the mags will hit in when you reload from slide lock and eventually break your ejector loose or break the end of it off all together. There is an abundance of info on this on the Brian Enos forum, and others, and its easy to do, but something to note. Im not really sure why STI hasnt addressed this but if you run the 9rd mags you dont have to worry about it.

I didn't know you could get the Lawman in 9. Have to look into that. My Ranger 2 had 10 round mags, no issues except it would not lock the slide on empty mag sometimes but perhaps my reloads were too weak.

The slide is heavy for 9mm but with lighter recoil springs it should make for pretty soft shooting and quick follow up shots. I shot some friends Norinco NP29s - with trigger work they are great shooters if you don't mind the rough finishing.

I have STI Legacy in 9mm it has been a great gun. I added STI magwell and Dawson Precision fibre optic front sights. It came with ambi saftey. I use an STI 22 conversion kit on it to shoot .22, great setup. Freedom Ventures still has them for 400.00 No recoil master and bushing barrel.

well what do you want to use it for? cant have a bull barel in idpa or clasic in ipsc/ singlestack in the uspsa. you could shoot in standard with 10 rounds but you'd be shooting minor without the round handi cap against major.. recoil master, throw it away and run a conventional 9 lbs spring.

other 9mm 1911..... SVIguns.com, yes it costs more and the wait sucks but they are worth it. buying right the first time is allways cheaper in the long run

You can use a bull-barrelled 1911 in IDPA (if that matters to the OP).

"Heavy and/or cone style barrels without a barrel bushing (Exception: Permitted in ESP & CDP divisions only if the barrel is factory-issue and is 4.2" or shorter)."

I too have a 9mm Trojan with a very high round count (40,000 +), and it has been an awesome pistol. It has the standard full length guide rod, and I have shot another Trojan 9mm with the recoilmaster and didn't really see a difference. The .45 however does feel different in a good way with te recoilmaster...it feels smoother when it's cycling. Will the recoilmaster stand the test of high round counts?....time will tell.
I have had the best luck with STI 1911's and don't even look to anything else when buying another one.

I have the STI USPSA in 9mm. Bushing and using a full length tungsten guide rod. 11lb recoil spring. Man this is a smooth low recoil shooting gun. I've yet to shoot it in classic division but intend to in the future.

I'm not familiar with USPSA, what ammo PF is required? Just curious with your 11#
I just started shooting IDPA and would be in ESP.
