1911 stripping question

Is this mod to help getting the take down lever/pin back in. I always have a hard time getting it to push the pin back to lock in. This looks like the groove will allow the pin to slide in. If so it's getting done for sure.

Yup, that's what the mod is for. Normally you swing the arm upwards from below the plunger and that's where/how you get the sratch. The notch allows you to just push it down, directly into place.

Some guns you need to compress the plunger to get the stop in, and some like my Ruger just pop back in.

Yup, my Springfield RO is like this. I have to push in the plunger before I'm able to seat the slide catch.

I'm a +1 for the little plastic thingy to help prevent the idiot scratch.....

And for me personally, way better than taking a Dremel etc & altering the slide stop.

NAA.

Yup, kinda looks like mine. I put some tape on mine 'cause I keep dropping it and being clear, kinda hard to find right away... damn old eyes! :p

when i got into 1911's i found a app for the iphone/ipad that really helped me learn how to do it.
gun disassembly is what its called, fella here recommended it to me.
i like it cause you can watch the gun come apart piece by piece then you can also set it to let YOU do it piece by piece.
i played with that for a couple days till i knew the process in and out then i went onto my 1911.
now i can rip those darn things down in like 5 seconds.
granted i spent an entire winter doing it over and over and over while watching TV.

at any rate, have a look at the app if you run a iphone or ipad, im pretty sure its free and i think the 1911 is a free gun on there to get too.

I've been thinking about the modification to the slide stop that was mentioned. Would it not make more sense to take some material off the plunger (a very slight champher is all that would be required.)?

I originally did the Logman modification to my slide stops to reduce the chance of making the "idiot scratch" on my 1911's. It's really helpful as it will help hold the slide stop in the proper position so that once the slide is in the the right spot, you can just push the slide stop in without the risk of it moving around and scratching your frame. The fact that it makes it easier to depress and slide past the plunger was a bonus :)

Don't feel too bad. I have stripped my 1911 Many many times. Was in a shop looking at a used 1911 stripped it no problem but struggled to get it back together again. Couldn't get the retaining pin to line up and go back in. Struggled for about 10 minutes to get it back together. Felt like a right idiot. Oh well....
