Stuck on the fence about a new 1911.

Love the aesthetics of the Charles Daly Field 1911 - and for a lower price - I can play around with the set-up a little.

Would love a Kimber Custom II, but can't track one down for the life of me.

Finally, I've had my eye on the new Para SSP, but I'm a little worried about the finish.

If there are any other contenders under the $1000 mark, let me know. Looking for some insight.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND A DEALER IN CANADA!!

It seems that it is near impossible to find myself a new Charles Daly or Kimber 1911 in Canada. Some dealers say that carry, but cannot 'get' the guns when i'm looking for them.

Does anyone know of a sure thing?

Thanks again

For what it's worth, my Para SSP's finish was crap. I was really disappointed with how easily it came off. Also I noticed how the slide stop groove started to peen after only one box of rounds! For $1000 I expected a lot more. Avoid the SSP in Para's lineup.
If you can, get a used STI. I love mine.

STI Spartan is the way to go.... ;)

I agree. Give the STI Spartan some serious consideration. I had a SSP and it was accurate and reliable but I didn't think it was worth what I paid for it. If you really want one then look for it used. I would not pay more than 700-750.00 for it. This is just my opinion and there will be others who won't share it. YMMV......

I've not seen a Charles Daily up close so it's hard to say. Kimbers are hit and miss. I've got a couple of them and have sold a couple. Reliable Gun in Vancouver has a shipment of Kimbers inbound. Call Sean and tell him you want the Custom II and he'll put your name on it. Where do you plan on obtaining a Charles Daily from?

I'd suggest you look into a Taurus 1911 line.

you can get one for under $1000 tazes included; I have one; nice gun! best value on a loaded 1911 out there IMO.

Out the box I like the set ups on the Kimber and CD, but I'm having a hard enough time getting the response from dealers for a Kimber, and still trying to track down the Charles Daly. Shy of going to the states, I don't think I'll find that Daly. The SSP was a front runner, as I loved how it shot, but if I'm paying the money for it I don't want the finish to wear off after a few months. Ideal is this Springer I've had my eye on -- a loaded, parkerized -- but I'm looking at 1200 plus tax. Killing me.

If you're not hung up on "full-size" 1911's - I recommend a look at the STI Ranger II. It does exceed your price limit, though.

i just picked my self up a sti spartan in .45acp. AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!! right out of the box it is one of the most accurate pistols i have ever owned!!! quality is great and it looks really really ###y!!! i only paid $950 taxes in for it.

Both Taurus and STI make a good product, as does Springfield, but after doing months of reaserch I settled on a Kimber Custom Target II. A little pricey, $1362.32 including taxes, shipping, fiber-optic front sight and a spare 8-roung mag. Not sure why the gun comes with a 7-rounder?? Anyway........

I got mine outta Montreal. They did have another, but that probably changed. Here's the link, just email them and they'll get back in a day or two. I dealt with Aldo.. good guy, no pressure salesman, knows his stuff and if you asked him a question he couldn't answer, he was not afraid to say so. No B.S. from him. Nice for a change.

Also, you can go to www.firearmscanada.com for a pretty good listing of dealers and manufacturers. It's a good place to start.

Good luck!!!

I was looking into a Ranger II as well, what do you think of it?

STI or Taurus is my line of thinking as well. Don't know if matters to you or not, but I believe the Daly's frame is an investment cast, Where as the Taurus is a forged frame & around the same money.

I was looking for a .45 colt(ish) type pistol.

I like the looks and feel of them...... First I bought a Llama, & then I traded it to Gunnar for a Tuned Norc 1911A1.

I priced out Colt, STI, Kimber, Springfiel arm, Para... and a few others

I Finally settled on a NIB Colt Gold Cup.... for only $200 more than the Para, $300 more than a Springfield & less money than a Kimber, I figgured "its a colt, It will always be worth something"

I still have to finish paying for the CGC, just $350 more to go..... Then I can tell you how awsome it is! :D

Cheers!
